“Pain is weakness leaving the body.” Right?
When it comes to heat, powering through can have serious consequences.
OSHA’s analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data found an average of 3,389 heat-related workplace injuries and illnesses resulting in days away from work each year, along with an average of 40 heat-related worker deaths per year. That's 32% higher than the long-term annual average!
And OSHA believes the true numbers are likely higher because heat-related incidents are underreported.
Heat illness is preventable, but it takes discipline, awareness, and smart decision-making. And... sometimes a complete culture shift.
A few practical steps can make a difference:
• Stop work for hydration breaks.
• Watch your crew for signs of heat stress.
• Rearrange schedules for cooler hours when possible.
• Create a culture where workers feel safe speaking up when they or a coworker are feeling the effects of heat.
We hope this will help your team build the habits and discipline that prevent heat illness before it becomes an incident.
Talk to us about our "Eye on Safety" reports full of great tips for your crew's regularly scheduled safety topic. It's just one of the many advantages to being a client of ARS.

Frequent incidents, delayed claim response, and compliance gaps do more than disrupt operations. They can drive up claim costs, increase insurance premiums, and place your people and business at greater risk.
Applied Risk Solutions provides one connected approach to reducing your total cost of risk:
🟠 On the front end: proactive safety programs, facility walkthroughs, hazard identification, written procedures, OSHA training, and employee education designed to prevent incidents.
🔵 On the back end: responsive claims management, timely investigation, medical bill review, trend analysis, and strategic reporting designed to control loss when an incident occurs.
Stop paying for preventable claims. Turn safety into savings—before the incident and after.

We see this on job sites all the time: "I'll drink water when I get thirsty."
Here's the problem—by the time you feel thirsty, your body is already dehydrated. On a hot day, you can sweat 2-3 gallons an hour. That's a lot to replace.
Instead, drink water regularly throughout the day—at least 1 quart per hour. Don't wait for the signal. Set a schedule. Grab a bottle. Make it routine.
And skip the soda, coffee, and alcohol. They actually dehydrate you faster.
Your team's performance, alertness, and safety depend on staying ahead of dehydration. Make hydration non-negotiable.
Stay safe out there.

Celebrating 250 Years of the "Sweet Land of Liberty."
As we celebrate our nation's 250th anniversary, we wish you and your family a spectacular Independence Day and a safe, patriotic weekend.
We are thankful for the freedoms we enjoy and for the generations of brave men and women who have sacrificed and served to preserve them.
As we reflect on our nation's history, these timeless words from "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" continue to inspire:
My country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From every mountainside,
Let freedom ring!
From all of us at Applied Risk Solutions, thank you to those who have worn our nation's uniform, those who continue to serve our communities, and those who work every day to preserve the freedoms we cherish.
Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸

Some of the first lessons we learned about safety didn't come from a training course.
They came from Dad.
Wear your safety gear.
Watch your footing.
Use the right tool.
Think before you act.
Simple advice. Easy to understand. Hard to forget.
The habits that prevent injuries and reduce risk often start long before we enter the workforce.
Happy Father's Day to all the dads, grandfathers, and father figures who taught us to work safely and look out for others.
