Zidane is surprised by the low level of French full-backs.

He wants new profiles to be developed in this position.

Christian Mawissa and Ismaëlo Ganiou were placed on the right and left during this international break with the Under-21s to look for solutions.

🔴🚨 MESSI'S FINAL BOW: ARGENTINA SAY GOODBYE TO THEIR CAPTAIN.

On Tuesday night, football will close one of its greatest international chapters. Lionel Messi is expected to make his 208th and final appearance for Argentina in a friendly against Benin at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires.

HOW WE GOT HERE

Messi announced his international retirement in August, after Argentina lost the 2026 World Cup final to Spain. The Argentine FA then decided he deserved a proper goodbye at home, and invited him to take part in a farewell on 6 October.

A CAREER LIKE NO OTHER

Since debuting for Argentina in 2005, Messi has spent more than two decades with the national team, and won the Copa América in 2021, the Finalissima and the World Cup in Qatar in 2022. He leaves as Argentina's record scorer with 125 goals, and as their most-capped player.

WHAT TO EXPECTON THE NIGHT

The AFA has invited every member of the 2022 World Cup-winning squad, along with their families, and says the whole match is dedicated to Messi.
- The Monumental holds 85.000 people
- The AFA says Messi will only be with the squad for the Benin game, and what exactly he will do on the pitch isn't yet clear. Fans shouldn't assume a full 90 minutes.

A BUSY WEEK FOR THE ALBICELESTE

This is the last of three friendlies at home. Argentina thrashed Burkina Faso 7-0 on Saturday, without Messi, who wasn't expected to feature in that match. It shows how a new generation is already stepping forward

THE TAKEAWAY

Nobody replaces a player like Messi, but nobody needs to. On Tuesday, Argentina and the world get to say thank you.

🚨 Thomas Müller names the GOAT between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi:

"I get asked this question a lot. For the first 10 years of my career, I always picked Cristiano Ronaldo. And I ALWAYS lost against him!

But when I take everything into consideration, Leo Messi is the greatest footballer of all time." 🐐🇦🇷

🚨🔴 PORTUGAL COACH, JORGE JESÙS ON CRISTIANO

"I think he'll have to score his 1,000th goal with Al-Nassr rather than with the Portuguese national team.

Cristiano is a player like the others. If he's performing, he plays; if he's not, he doesn't play. That's how I work with everyone.

And it's not because it's Cris. Admittedly, Cris has a different status, that's true. His career is different, he's won five Ballon d'Ors, but does that influence my decisions? Not at all, zero.
But he is different from the others, that's certain."

🔴 JUST SO YOU KNOW🚨

Will the recent performances of the current ballon d'or nominees be considered by the jury when deciding who the winner will be?

The simple answer is, NO.

The reference period covers the entire previous season, from August 3, 2025, to July 19, 2026, including international competitions.

🚨 The official Ballon d'Or account on Twitter answers this question:

"Do you have to win the Champions League to win the trophy?"

The answer is NO ❌

Out of 69 editions of the Ballon d'Or, only 21 players won both the Champions League and the Ballon d'Or in the same year, or 30.4%.

So 69.6% of Ballon d'Or winners had not won the Champions League that season.

🏆 The Champions League can carry weight in the vote, but it is not a mandatory condition for winning the Ballon d'Or.

With the votes already concluded, who do you sincerely think deserves to win the ballon d'or?
