Board members often say they'll do anything except fundraising. It makes sense when you look at how fundraising has traditionally been taught: give or get, sponsor a table, share your contact list. No wonder it feels icky. π¬
Weβre honored to have Joanna Hogan as a guest writer on our blog, sharing her piece, "Before You Ask Your Board to Fundraise, Do This Instead."
Instead of asking who could give, she suggests asking who would love this. That small shift changes everything.
Trust is often the missing piece. Board members hesitate to make introductions because they worry about what happens next.
One of the most powerful lines from the post: "I want to be your easiest no." That kind of approach removes pressure and makes room for real connection. π€
Getting to know your board members beyond the numbers they can give may be the real key to sustainable, joyful fundraising.

Scaling generosity is rarely a solo effort, and your board may be one of the most valuable resources your nonprofit has. π‘
So where does meaningful board involvement begin? In many cases, it starts with setting clear expectations.
Board members often hesitate around fundraising because no one has defined what it actually involves. When leaders explain what fundraising is and what it isn't, the ask can feel far less intimidating. From there, consider spelling out the specific ways you hope each board member will participate. π€
A big thank you to Barbara O'Reilly, CFRE from Windmill Hill Consulting for joining us for this webinar and sharing her insight on engaging boards in generosity.

Should your nonprofit give donors gifts? π
Some donors love a thank you gift. A branded mug, a tote bag, or a small keepsake can make a contribution feel more personal and memorable. For others, that same gift can feel like a missed opportunity. They'd rather see their dollars go straight to your mission.
On our latest webinar, guest Joanna Hogan shared a simple rule of thumb: know your donors. When you understand what motivates someone to give, you'll know whether a physical gift will strengthen that relationship or quietly undermine it.
The takeaway isn't "always" or "never." It's "it depends," and the answer lives in your donor data.

Internal controls are the financial policies and procedures your nonprofit puts in place to manage money responsibly, ethically, and in compliance with the law.
They guide every financial activity, from accepting donations to spending funds to keeping accurate records, all while supporting your mission and following IRS requirements.
It helps to think of internal controls as guardrails rather than red tape. Instead of slowing your organization down, they protect it, giving your nonprofit the structure and confidence needed to grow its finances and work toward true sustainability. π±

Stock gifts are one of the most generous ways donors can give, often far larger than a typical cash donation. But the process has traditionally left everyone in the dark. Donors wonder if they completed everything correctly. Nonprofit staff wonder where the gift even came from. π
That is the gap our new Stock Donation Tracker was built to close. Donors get a self-service hub to track their pledge, download updated transfer instructions, and loop in their financial advisor with a click. Nonprofits spend less time chasing paperwork and more time building relationships with the people who make their mission possible. π€
Because when we remove complexity, we do not just improve technology. We unlock more generosity.

Most nonprofits assume their donors do not have much beyond cash to give, but the data tells a different story: 80% of donors hold appreciated assets such as stocks, mutual funds, or bonds. π‘
Many nonprofits simply are not set up to accept anything beyond a check or a card, so this kind of giving never gets the chance to happen.
Opening the door to stock and asset gifts can turn that dormant wealth into real support for your mission. π±
Infinite Giving helps nonprofits accept these gifts easily, so donors can give in the way that actually reflects their wealth.

Financial controls are not optional for nonprofits. They protect your funding, your reputation, and your 501(c)(3) status.
Without the right systems in place, even well-intentioned organizations can face theft or costly financial losses. The good news is that strong internal controls can help manage these risks.
Here is what solid financial controls can help your nonprofit do:
β
Maintain compliance with fundraising, spending, and reporting laws.
β
Safeguard your finances by protecting assets and growing reserves.
β
Build public trust through financial transparency with donors.
β
Develop sustainable practices that support long-term growth.
Getting started does not have to be overwhelming. Begin with the essentials, then bring in nonprofit finance professionals as needed.

Most nonprofits will not admit this out loud, but a lot of teams walk into DAF conversations without actually knowing the terminology.
Our CEO and Founder, Karen Houghton, recently sat down with Liza Carballeira, Founder and Philanthropic Advisor at Epic Philanthropy, to talk through this exact issue. Terms like "grant recommendation," "sponsoring organization," and "advisor" get thrown around often, yet many fundraisers nod along without a clear picture of what they mean. π‘
That gap can quietly cost an organization donations, since DAF gifts are becoming a bigger part of how people give. Liza's insight made it clear that understanding this terminology is a baseline skill for anyone working in development. π
The good news is that you do not have to figure this out alone. Infinite Giving helps nonprofits understand their finances with more clarity and confidence, from DAF gifts to cash reserves and beyond.
