Beautiful, uplifting music for everyone.

Since its inception in 1998, the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra has brought fresh, imaginative performances of instrumental works, vocal and choral music, and dance to audiences throughout the Atlanta area and across the Southeast. The musicians of the ABO are skilled in the art of playing on historical instruments, employing specialized techniques, rhetoric, and a palette of expressive instrumental colors to breathe new life into old music. The ABO's vivacious style and inspired programming engage audiences from all walks of life in a variety of venues from churches and concert halls, to art museums and galleries.

For the past 10 years, we've been proud to call the Cathedral of St. Philip our second home, as Artists-in-Residence.💛

Help us celebrate this milestone by attending our concert at The Cathedral on October 23 at 7:30, Leipzig Churches and Coffeehouses!

This glorious all-Bach program features a special collaboration with the Cathedral of St. Philip Schola led by Dale Adelmann. We'll revisit Ein feste Burg, a work that first brought the ABO and Friends of Cathedral Music together in 2013, alongside Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 1 in C Major and selections from Wir danken dir.

As Artistic Director Julie Andrijeski shares, "Canon for Music Dale
Adelmann and his superb choirs are a dream to work with, and the magnificent
sanctuary provides a perfect setting for grand choral works."

"The Cathedral’s immense beauty and long reverb envelop our audiences in a wash of beautiful sounds and colors."

At our concerts this October, we're celebrating Bach's musical life in Leipzig Germany with three of his most loved works. Swipe or scroll to see which ones!🎶

⚔️ Ein feste Burg, BWV 80
Bach takes Martin Luther’s famous hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” and turns it into an intricate musical fortress of his own. And one surprising detail: the trumpets and timpani you may hear in modern performances were actually added by Bach’s son, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, after J.S. Bach’s death.

💃 Orchestral Suite No. 1 in C Major, BWV 1066
This suite moves through French-inspired dances including gavottes, minuets, bourrées and passepieds, with one especially unusual guest: the forlane, an Italian dance associated with 18th-century Venice.

🎺 Wir danken dir, BWV 29
Written in 1731 for the inauguration of Leipzig’s town council, this cantata opens with a brilliant sinfonia featuring organ and orchestra. But here’s the fun part: Bach recycled the music from an earlier work - the famous opening of his E Major Violin Partita - and transformed it for a completely different setting.

In the words of Artistic Director Julie Andrijeski...

“The music we play is full of life and emotion. We connect with each other on stage and channel that combined energy to our audiences.”

And when this happens, something special fills the room:

“Sometimes I feel the whole room is electrically charged, and everyone is living in the moment. It’s exhilarating when that happens, and the audience can feel it, too.”

We can’t wait to share this energy with you at our concerts on October 23 & 24, continuing our 10th-anniversary celebrations as Artists-in-Residence at the Cathedral of St. Philip with a celebration of J.S. Bach’s musical life in Leipzig.🎶✨
