Happy 47th birthday to ... 7 Stages!

Since 1979, 7 Stages Theatre has brought local, national, and international emerging artwork of social, political, and spiritual importance to Atlanta audiences. For over 40 years, artists of all kinds have found 7 Stages to be a haven in the support and development of new works and methods of collaboration. We’re also a rental house, meaning lots of theatre companies around Atlanta and beyond can rent our space for their productions!

Thanks to everyone who came out for A Meal! Every performance needs an audience, but A Meal depends on audience participation on a whole other level, so we want to thank everyone who came to these performances and gave life to the art!

We also want to thank LEIMAY, the ensemble, guest performers, and the amazing production team who made this happen. This group of artists completely transformed our theater and changed our idea of what performance art can be.

Origins of A MEAL at 7 Stages - Check out the new blog post from Artistic Director Heidi S Howard about how our upcoming presentation of A MEAL with made its way from in NYC to 7 Stages. Read the full article at 7Stages.org/news

"In New York, at the premiere of A MEAL at HERE Arts Center, after an insanely beautiful journey through the space that I fondly remembered from my days at the Director’s Lab and with the legendary James Scruggs, I sat with a group of strangers sharing my first memories of food while we ate together. My story included helping my father process the deer he had hunted and smoking deer jerky on our homestead in the mountains of Colorado.

Just a few years prior, HERE Arts Center Artistic Director and founder Kristin Marting called me to introduce me to some fierce artists she was working with who were creating Encounters on food justice. We dove in with trust and co-commissioned the project, understanding that vital conversations asking if we know where our food comes from, and who we eat with and why are essential.

Food justice is racial and cultural justice. The simple act of a shared meal becomes a radical act of resistance toward the global food system that oppresses many communities of color today. This journey of shared stories, lessons in sustainability, and high production values is coming to Atlanta, and I am beyond thrilled for our community!

A MEAL was first commissioned by HERE Arts Center in 2018, while the lead artists were supported during a multiyear Artist Residency led by then-Artistic Director Kristen Marting. It premiered at HERE in 2024."............
