Elevating Student Leadership Across Georgia

The IEEE Atlanta Section Student Leadership Workshop on August 29 brought together student leaders from across Georgia at the GTRI Conference Center to connect, exchange ideas, and explore new opportunities for collaboration.

Throughout the day, our team shared upcoming initiatives, discussed budgeting and planning strategies, and learned from the experiences of Student Branches across the state. One of the most impactful conversations centered on how branches can work together — sharing resources, co‑hosting events, and creating more pathways for students to learn, lead, and grow within IEEE.

Special appreciation to M. Ryan Bales, Ph.D., P.E. LaRhonda Julien, Melody Richardson, Madhushree Kumari, Brian Page, Hines Richardson, and all the organizers who made this event possible.

We had a wonderful morning connecting young learners with hands‑on science at the East Cobb Library during our STEM on the MOVE Workshop. Kids explored engaging activities in dinosaurs, sustainability, and paleontology, turning curiosity into discovery at every station.

Their enthusiasm made the day unforgettable.

Sagamore Hills’ Family STEM Night was buzzing last Thursday—more than 200 students and their families filled the school with curiosity, creativity, and a whole lot of engineering spirit.

With 17 hands on activities, we put 9 family size packs of Oreos and 5 pounds of gumdrops to excellent use as young engineers built towers, tested structures, and explored how real STEM thinking happens through exploration.

Huge thanks to our volunteers, teachers, and families for making the evening such a joyful celebration of STEM learning. And a heartfelt thank you to LaRhonda Julien for donating an amazing STEM kit to Sagamore Hills so students can keep exploring long after the event.

Addison Elementary kicked off the new year with an incredible Family STEM Night, welcoming more than 400 students and parents for an evening of hands-on exploration, curiosity, and community.

One of the highlights of the night was “Be a Superhero for Sustainability,” led by Erica Myers, whose energy and creativity drew families into conversations about protecting our planet. Students suited up as everyday heroes, discovering practical ways they can make a difference—from reducing waste to rethinking how we use resources at home and at school.

This year’s IEEE Celebration was a testament to what happens when purpose-driven people come together. IEEE-Atlanta brought warmth, momentum, and vision to every moment—reconnecting with longtime members, welcoming new faces, and sparking ideas that will carry us forward.
