Good morning from Black Voters Matter Blvd. at Essence Festival! There was no better place to be than celebrating Black joy, culture, and community with our team and partners.

Day one was an incredible start. We kicked things off with performances from Tidal Wave Band and the Zulu Tramps Dancers, followed by a powerful opening on the Black Joy Stage with Laketa Smith. Throughout the day, attendees connected in our Freedom Summer Activation Area, explored the We Are the Architects space, joined the fun at Because We Feud by Because We Are Podcast where we laughed and also learned during The Aunty’s Vote discussion and comedy segment with Gigi Leflair, Dominique Morgan, and Nse Ufot & experienced so much more!

We closed out the day with our All Roads Lead to the South panel, where leaders and organizers explored why the South continues to shape the future of Black political power and movement building.

We’re just getting started. If you’re at Essence Festival, stop by Black Voters Matter Blvd. and experience a weekend rooted in Black joy, culture, and the power we’re building together. We Got Us. ❤️✊🏾
