Long story short: Years ago, I step foot in class and my professor handed me scissors to cut off long acrylic nails. 😳 They were prohibited as a music major especially in a piano class. I’m traumatized yet refuse to play with short nails.
I do instruct my private piano students to refrain from them at the beginning but, once you master playing with nails, it’s hard to go without. 😻 Also, it depends on the genre you’re playing. I would definitely cut them if needed for different styles of music.
