Please join us in welcoming Dr. Elizabeth Henry to the AMIS Atlanta Board of Directors! We are so excited to have Elizabeth join our board in support of our vision of creating a more peaceful, welcoming, and connected world through international friendship.

Elizabeth Henry serves as Director of Graduate Advising Operations & Engagement at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Previously, Elizabeth held leadership roles at Agnes Scott College, including Director of Physician Assistant Operations and Senior Director of Graduate Studies, and advised students in the Dual Degree Engineering and Computer Science Program and served as the faculty advisor for the Young Physicians Initiative. Drawing on extensive experience in higher education leadership and nonprofit board service, she has expertise in strategic planning, organizational transformation, governance, and partnership development. She is passionate about developing leaders and advancing initiatives that strengthen organizations, address critical societal challenges, and expand community impact.

As we continue to plan for our welcome reception that we very much hope you will attend, we also wanted to let you know about another upcoming event that will occur shortly after the welcome reception.

Two of our wonderful AMIS Volunteers are hosting a dinner opportunity to socialize with your fellow international students in a small group setting on Saturday, October 3rd.

Details are available at amisatlanta.org/events. The deadline to register is 9/28 so our hosts have time to make preparations. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy the hospitality of our very kind and gracious volunteer hosts!

15 days until AMIS Atlanta’s largest event of the year! Come join AMIS Atlanta on Saturday, September 26th, in welcoming international students and scholars studying at colleges and universities all over the metro area to the city of Atlanta. The Welcome Reception will be held from 2-5 PM in Coda Tech Square Plaza.

This FREE community event will feature a DJ and international music, a photo booth, group dancing, giveaways, international food, and an amazing opportunity to meet others from around the world and right here in Atlanta! Families are welcome!

International students from the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, the Netherlands, Hungary, Austria and Germany came out to cheer on tonight. Atlanta didn’t win, but it was a good game and a great way to introduce American soccer to others!

Did You Know? The roots of Labor Day stretch back to the Industrial Revolution when the average American worked 12-hour days, seven days a week. Safety regulations were scarce, wages could be painfully low and even young children routinely performed difficult labor in harsh conditions. Labor unions began forming and fighting for better pay, more reasonable hours and safer workplaces. Workers organized strikes and rallies to demand change. It was against this backdrop of growing labor activism that the idea of a holiday honoring American workers began to take shape. Today, Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September every year.
