Mike Iosue, David Barton, and Craig Fisher represented EM Structural at the 2026 Bulldog Scholarship Golf Classic in Asheville last month. We were proud to serve as the Reception and Cart Sponsor for the annual event, which brought together more than 200 golfers and raised more than $160,000 to support scholarships for UNC Asheville student-athletes!

Last month, our Charlotte office volleyball crew finished out their league season on a high note, taking second place in the end-of-season tournament!

Our team recently attended the 2026 Mass Timber Group Summit, where the conversation went well beyond the structure itself.

Sessions covered how mass timber systems interact with architecture, connections, fire protection, MEP coordination, fabrication, and construction. One key takeaway: mass timber does not have to be an all-or-nothing approach. Hybrid systems that combine timber with steel, concrete, or conventional wood framing can often create a more effective solution for the project.

The Summit also reinforced the value of early structural and fabrication coordination. Member sizes, connections, penetrations, tolerances, procurement, and er****on sequencing can all significantly affect cost and constructability.

The experience provided a broader perspective on how structural engineers can support mass timber projects, both through design and by helping project teams identify where timber can provide the greatest overall value.

Our work doesn’t stop at the drawings.

It continues in the field, where connections need to be installed, sequences have to be worked through, and unexpected conditions need answers before the next step can happen.

That’s why we value the people on site who know how to build, ask the right questions, and keep the project moving.

Construction Appreciation Week is about recognizing them.

A major milestone for the new MUSC College of Medicine in Charleston!

The team placed the final structural steel beam in August, marking the topping out of the 186,000 SF facility. Members of the project team joined MUSC leadership, faculty, staff, and partners to celebrate the progress made so far.

When complete, it will become the College of Medicine’s first dedicated home in more than a century, bringing medical education, student support, faculty, and academic leadership together in one facility.

Completion is anticipated in late 2027.
