You all are amazing. That's all we can say. Our fans, hands down, are the most giving humans on the planet. We are blown away.
The dragon has been sung back to sleep yet again*… And it’s yet another year that I don’t really know where to begin with all my thanks for pulling off this amazing show every year, but I’m gonna try.
Warning, y’all – this is going to be a little long because, like always, I have a lot of folks to thank who are integral to the track and the show every year.
While we were also celebrating the 40th anniversary of Dragon Con, I was also celebrating my 20th anniversary as a volunteer, and y’all... Every single person I interacted with reminded me why I’ve been doing this for so long and how much I love doing this every year, through the hard times and the good, to put on this brilliant show, and how much we’ve grown since I started volunteering with the track.
I want to start by thanking our performers this year (and hope that I can tag them all properly for once). For our returning performers, they killed it just like they do every year, and our new performers embraced our particular flavor of chaos that I hope means they’ve officially become One Of Us ™ in the coming years. The Blibbering Humdingers, Brobdingnagian Bards, Clearly Guilty, Corwyn The Bardbarian, Foot Pound Force, Tim Griffin (GriffinEd), The Gekkos, Emily Henry Music, Mikey Mason, Chuck Parker, Tom Smith – Thank you for every ounce of energy you shared with us this Con. I love all y’all so much, and you are all officially Track Room Family, you know?
I especially want to thank Corwyn The Bardbarian for jumping at the chance to emcee the return of the 2x10s in-person this year. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t crow a little bit about how our attendees showed up and played their hearts out up on that stage. Thank you so much, and please come back next year to Ryan Carey, Avelyn Davee, Jezibell, The Platypus Princess, and Hallie Dolin for helping us bring back this great show!
I really don’t even know where to being when I come to our volunteers this year. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control, we all missed Kat, but we’ll get her back next year. But Rowan, Shemar, Patrick, Theresa, Jordan, Felix Hurst, and Liz (with a special shout-out to our Eternal Helpers Chip and Sharron) made sure that the fans and the performers had an amazing time (along with making sure that I sat down, ate/drank occasionally, and got out of the room as well). From the bottom of my heart, I truly could not survive con without all of your blood, sweat, and tears, and just plain putting up with me and all of my craziness this year.
I want to give my regular special shout-out again to Pat Var for taking the time in her still-official track retirement to get the Songbook out the door this year. You always do such a spectacular job, especially this year with the retrospective going through 10 years of song submissions and all of the chaos that came with it. You could have stepped back finally and let me flounder, but you are always there to give your time and energy to our little songbook with a smile, even if you don't need to anymore. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Last but certainly in no way least – my eternal love and gratitude to you, the fans. You came out in record numbers to the track this year and sang and clapped and laughed with us. My heart is full every time I see not only familiar faces but also new ones, and truly, y’all are all just the most amazing folks out there at Dragon Con. You also opened up your wallets above and beyond, bringing in over $3,000 this year! It’s a new record for the track, and I love all y’all for it! Our nemesis, Consuite, deserves all the love for feeding folks, but we did win this round, and you bet I’ll be crowing about this for a long while.
We’ll start planning soon for the 2027 show, but may be a little scarce in posting for a bit while we all recover. I plan to have some more of our pre-con shenanigans starting after the new year, and I'll be attending a few conventions over the next few months in the Southeast, both as an author and attendee, so make sure to stop me and say hi if you see any of us around!
Thank you again for all y’all’s support of the Dragon Con Filk Music Track - See y’all in 2027!
* - Yeah, I'm still continually stealing this phrase from Clyde (Dragon Con Concourse Stage). It's tradition now.
