🏆 Meet InCommunity’s 2026 DSP of the Year: Kisha Duran! 🏆

Kisha Duran is more than an outstanding Direct Support Professional, she is someone who creates meaningful experiences, builds genuine relationships, and helps the individuals she supports live full and joyful lives in their communities.

Her supervisor, Sara Jones, describes Kisha as hardworking, compassionate, charismatic, and dedicated, with a fun and positive attitude that shines through in her work. The individuals she supports, especially Carol B. and Larry R., know they can trust and depend on her.

Kisha makes sure Carol gets to enjoy the things she loves: from getting her hair, nails, and toes done to sharing her stories with the friendly employees at her favorite salon. She also makes sure Larry gets out into the community to enjoy shopping, movies, his favorite restaurant, Fried Tomatoes, and even relaxing manicures and pedicures.

But what truly sets Kisha apart is that she doesn't simply provide support — she creates opportunities for connection, independence, joy, and accomplishment.

In Kisha's words:

“Being a DSP means more to me than just having a job; it means being someone the individuals I support can trust, depend on, and feel safe with.”

And her favorite part?

“My favorite part is building genuine relationships and seeing their smiles when they accomplish something, no matter how small.”

🌟 Celebrating DSP of the Year Nominee: Precita Poston! 🌟

Precita Poston is a DSP her team at Barrington knows they can depend on. Her supervisor, Zaria Leggon, nominated Precita for her consistent hard work, dedication, compassion, and willingness to go above and beyond for the individuals she supports.

Precita makes sure the people she supports are treated with patience, dignity, and respect. She takes pride in creating a safe, clean, and supportive home and is always willing to step in wherever she is needed — from assisting with ADLs and daily routines to preparing meals, supporting transportation, maintaining the home, and helping her coworkers.

Most importantly, Precita understands that being a DSP is about helping people build independence and reach their goals.

When asked what being a DSP means to her, Precita shared:

“Being a DSP means supporting others with patience, compassion, and respect while helping them live as independently as possible. My favorite part is seeing the progress people make and knowing that I played a part in helping them reach their goals.”

🌟 Celebrating DSP of the Year Nominee Debbie Williams! 🌟

For nearly 20 years, Debbie Williams has dedicated herself to supporting the people at the heart of InCommunity.

Her supervisor, Charles Hill, nominated Debbie for DSP of the Year because of her professionalism, compassion, patience, and unwavering commitment to the individuals she supports. He describes her as a natural leader within her home — someone coworkers, families, and individuals look to for guidance, support, and advocacy.

When asked what being a Direct Support Professional means to her, Debbie shared:

“Being able to be a voice for the people we serve. The smiles on the individual’s faces when I have been able to help them complete tasks that some may feel are small, but to them, it shows that they can accomplish anything.”

That perspective captures the heart of Debbie’s work. She understands that every accomplishment matters, no matter how big or small, and she takes pride in helping the people she supports recognize just how much they are capable of achieving.

🌟 DSP Spotlight: Wanda Johnson 🌟

As we celebrate DSP Appreciation Week, we're honored to recognize Wanda Johnson for her exceptional service and dedication to the individuals she supports at InCommunity.

For Wanda, being a Direct Support Professional is about celebrating every victory, big or small.

"The smiles, claps, fist bumps, friendly waves, and joyful dancing are the most rewarding parts of being a DSP. It brings me great joy to watch individuals grow, develop their daily living skills, and achieve their goals. Working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is truly a privilege."

Wanda's supervisor, Zaria Leggon, nominated her for DSP of the Year because of the heart and dedication she brings to her role every day. Known for "holding things down" on weekends, Wanda goes beyond the responsibilities of her shift by planning engaging activities, outings, and experiences that help individuals stay active, connected, and excited about their weekends.

Her dependability, compassion, and commitment ensure that the individuals she supports are not only cared for but also empowered to live fulfilling lives. Wanda's efforts help create meaningful moments, support personal growth, and make each day brighter for those around her.

🌟 DSP APPRECIATION WEEK SPOTLIGHT: LISA WILSON 🌟

We’re kicking off DSP Appreciation Week by celebrating Lisa Wilson, Program Lead at BHC and a 2026 DSP of the Year nominee!

For Lisa, being a Direct Support Professional is about purpose, relationships and helping the individuals she supports live their best lives.

“Being a DSP means so much more to me than just having a job. It means being there for individuals who depend on me for support, encouragement, patience, and understanding.”

Lisa says her favorite part of the work is seeing individuals grow, accomplish things they may have once struggled with and knowing she played a part in making their day better. She treasures building relationships, celebrating accomplishments, listening and being someone the individuals can trust.

Her supervisor, Natania Griffin, says Lisa has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to person-centered service throughout her 10 years with InCommunity:

“Lisa has demonstrated amazing love for the individuals and treats them with a focus on person centeredness by understanding each individual, what makes them tick, and the best avenues to pursue assisting them when situations arise.”

Natania also highlighted Lisa’s consistency, creativity, willingness to help and ability to meet both individuals and staff “at their point of need.” Most importantly, she says Lisa helps create an environment where individuals feel safe and known, while providing families with the consistency they can count on.

Natania’s words say it beautifully: Lisa is “such an asset to InCommunity” and “the epitome of grace under fire.”

💜 Lisa, thank you for 10 years of compassion, dedication and meaningful relationships. Thank you for being the kind of DSP who makes a difference not only in the lives of the individuals you support, but throughout the entire InCommunity community.

September is DSP Appreciation Month, and at InCommunity, we’re taking the opportunity to spotlight the exceptional Direct Support Professionals who support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) every day.

DSPs are there for the big milestones and the everyday victories—from learning new skills and pursuing employment goals to building independence, making choices, exploring new interests, and being active in the community.

Their impact can look different from person to person, but the goal is the same: helping people live meaningful, fulfilling lives with greater choice and independence.

In a couple weeks, we’ll be introducing you to some of the incredible DSPs who make this work possible and giving you a glimpse into who they are, what motivates them, and why they do what they do.
