CHRIS 180 was founded in Georgia in 1981 as a collaboration between the Junior League of Atlanta and the Menninger Foundation to bridge gaps in foster care services for children who required residential mental health treatment, but who did not need institutionalization/hospitalization. We accomplish our mission by ensuring child and family well-being through mental health treatment and stable living environments; preventing family problems through education, counseling and teaching life skills; and impacting public policies through advocacy. We are one of the Southeast’s premiere mental health, child welfare and family service organizations. We are a leader in Georgia and a founding member of multiple collaborations to help children and families. Today, we save, serve and protect thousands of abused and neglected children while empowering families through positive, solution focused programming which includes: behavioral health, life/social/vocational skill development, group homes, community services, training and housing programs.

Mental Health Is Health.
Mental health affects how we think, feel, connect with others, and move through everyday life. When something feels off, reaching out for support is part of taking care of your health.
Mental illness can affect anyone. It can look different from person to person, and asking for help can look different, too.
During Mental Illness Awareness Week, we’re reminding our community that mental health deserves attention, care, and support.
If you are struggling, you do not have to navigate it alone.

Self-Care Sunday: Try a 10-minute reset.
When your day feels full, you do not always need a complete break. Sometimes, you need a few intentional minutes to reset before continuing.
Try this:
• Step away from your phone and take a few slow breaths.
• Drink a glass of water.
• Step outside or change your surroundings.
• Write down what is taking up the most space in your mind.
Self-care can be practical. It can be small. And it can start with giving yourself 10 minutes to pause.
What would your 10-minute reset look like?

3 Ways Peer Support Can Make a Difference
Peer support brings people together through lived experience.
1. Feel understood
Someone who has faced their own challenges may understand parts of your experience that are difficult to explain.
2. Feel less alone
Sharing experiences can create connection and reduce isolation.
3. Feel more comfortable reaching out
A peer can offer encouragement and remind you that asking for support is okay.
Lived experience can create connection in a way that says, “You are not alone in this.”

A new month is a natural opportunity to pause and reassess.
Rather than focusing on everything you need to accomplish, take a moment to consider how you want to approach the month ahead.
• What deserves your attention?
• What habits are serving you well?
• What needs to change?
• Where can you create more space for your well-being?
A fresh month does not require a complete reset. Sometimes, a small shift in mindset can change how you move through the weeks ahead.
10/02/2026
A new month is a chance to check in with yourself.
You do not have to start over. You can simply choose what you want to carry forward and what you want to approach differently.
This month, consider:
• What deserves more of your attention?
• What mindset has been holding you back?
• What do you want to make more room for?
• What is one small change that could support your well-being?
New month. Fresh perspective. One step at a time.

Trust is not built in one conversation. It grows through consistent actions, patience, and showing up.
Here are five ways adults can build stronger connections with children and youth:
Listen before offering solutions.
Young people want to feel heard and understood.
Follow through on your words.
Consistency helps build a sense of safety.
Create space for honest conversations.
Let them know their feelings and experiences matter.
Respect their voice and choices.
Giving young people a sense of control helps strengthen trust.
Show up, even during difficult moments.
Support matters most when challenges arise.
Every child deserves trusted adults who make them feel safe, valued, and supported.
CHRIS 180 is committed to helping children, youth, and families build stronger connections and access the support they need.

Families look different for everyone.
Family can be the people who raise us, support us, guide us, and remind us that we are not alone.
Today is a reminder to make time for connection:
• Ask how someone is really doing
• Share a meal or conversation
• Spend intentional time together
• Let the people in your life know they matter
Strong relationships and support systems play an important role in our mental health and well-being.
At CHRIS 180, we work alongside children, youth, families, and caregivers to strengthen connections and provide support through life’s challenges.

Self-care is often pictured as something we do alone, but connection can be an important part of caring for our mental health.
Taking time to strengthen relationships, check in with someone you care about, and create meaningful moments together can remind us that we do not have to navigate life’s challenges by ourselves.
Today, consider:
• Reaching out to someone you trust
• Spending intentional time together
• Asking meaningful questions
• Creating moments of connection
Strong relationships and support systems help us feel understood, valued, and supported.
At CHRIS 180, we believe connection is an important part of healing and building stronger communities.
