HUD issued Notice PIH 2026-17 in July, setting new cyber incident reporting requirements for public housing agencies. Here's what you need to know:

You have 36 hours to report.

When a cyber incident occurs, notify:
- HUD's Cyber Incident Response Team at [email protected]
- Your local HUD field office contact

Have this information ready:
- PHA name and code
- Point of contact details
- Date, cause, and scope of the incident
- Impact on PII and login credentials
- Whether law enforcement has been notified

Not everything will be known in 36 hours — report what you have. But having a documented incident response process before something happens makes all the difference.

The security practices of your software vendors matter just as much as your own. Make sure your partners are prepared.
