Georgia Tech celebrated the completion of George Tower | Scheller Tower with a ceremonial ribbon cutting. The 18- and 14-floor Towers are the newest addition to Midtown Atlanta's skyline. 🏙

The state-of-the-art building uses an all-electric design — resulting in usage of 75% less energy than comparable facilities. It is designed to collect rainwater that makes up 70% of the water usage of the building. Intended to maximize daylight, the specialized glazing of the windows also helps reduce bird collisions. The overall carbon footprint is 20% lower than similar Atlanta buildings. Georgia Tech alumnus Thomas A. Fanning has been named the sole finalist in the national search for the next Chancellor of the University System of Georgia. He spent 13 years at the helm of Southern Company before retiring in 2023 and he has held leadership roles on the Georgia Tech Foundation Board of Trustees, the Georgia Tech Advisory Board, and the Scheller College of Business Advisory Board.

In November of 2023, the USG approved the naming of Georgia Tech's new Student-Athlete Performance Center in Fanning's honor — recognizing his sustained philanthropic support and service to his alma mater. The building officially opened earlier this year.

Fanning is set to succeed Chancellor Sonny Perdue, who announced his retirement in April after four decades of public service, and will take the helm of one of the nation’s top public university systems with 25 public colleges and universities, more than 50,000 faculty and staff and more than 382,000 students statewide.
