This is such a great time of year to retrospect and introspect – looking back, what have we learned? Looking within, what do we know? Human, know thyself! That is a trait of all great leaders.

In this time of long nights in the northern hemisphere, growing things are quiet and gathering strength. While we have built this busy holiday season, there is another impulse that calls us to pause.

Wishing you a Clarity Break™ in this season that gives you faith and confidence in your north star, your vision for your growth as a leader, for the impact of your business, and for all the communities you are nested in.

Our neighbors gave us this Moravian star. I love that it is graceful, simple…and a little spikey. Inadvertently caught dawn breaking behind the star and the darkness – it is the magic of this season!

Conscious Capitalism Atlanta's meeting last week was on "The Value of Purpose in Growing Profit." Profit and purpose can sometimes feel at odds. Founders and leaders talked at round tables and with the panel about the bottom-line benefits of a collaborative, passionate, and inclusive workforce. And the challenges of having a performance management conversation, bringing in new team members and dealing with difficult choices when sale/no sale is a matter of core values.

What an experience! Entrepreneurs' Organization - EO Atlanta at the League of Legends semi-finals tournament. The whole world was represented. Thank you Allie Young, who shared her passion and expertise on what she calls the future of entertainment!

Roaring waves of sound from a full house at State Farm Arena as teams played what looked to me like a combination of chess and capture the flag (a crystal in this case) at the speed of light. The business model is very much like other sports and a huge opportunity for local art, tech and support.

Proud to celebrate this milestone with these leaders who are passionate about helping people feel their best, reach their full potential and do more of what they love. Talk about a values alignment!

So proud of my client, David Brinkman, sharing his experience on a panel for EO Atlanta with some other superstars. He sold his business at a high multiple and is here giving back to entrepreneurs. He credited the EOS® process as a critical part of his exit: "Having everybody rowing in the same direction was a real multiplier."

If the word "retreat' sounds like failure, consider how stepping back for a few days regenerated these amazing EOS Implementers. We are more present for our clients because we laughed. A lot. We told stories. Above all, after 5 years of annual retreats, we are vulnerable. There is so much power in being seen for who you are.

The bent flower...I reached to remove it from the birthday bouquet, but it was suddenly beautiful. Like a dancing skirt, with a hidden flash of purple! This has been a week of small failures. In other words, typical. As leaders in rambunctious companies, we are building what’s not been built before. We struggle with failure. Every day. We see a carefully created process go awry. Let a customer down. Almost run out of cash. Say something destructive.

We feel bent. Broken. Ugly. And we kind of are.

What sets us apart is what comes next. Explain the process again. Make it right for the customer. Find the money. Repair the damage. Grow. Get better. Create a dream that’s never been made real before. Laugh. Crush a goal. Dent the universe.

It’s been hot. We’re working hard and working around (please, not through) vacation time with our families. May you be renewed and refreshed. You are beautiful in all your broken glory!
