A South Carolina jury awarded more than $10.2 million after a commercial trailer’s landing gear collapsed during a loading operation, leaving the Plaintiff with permanent spinal injuries and unable to work. Evidence showed the trailer’s landing gear had previously been repaired without required cross-bracing, and the Defendant failed to identify the unsafe condition during inspections.
The verdict included $7.48 million in compensatory damages and $2.8 million in punitive damages.

A Florida jury found R.J. Reynolds To***co Company liable in a wrongful death case involving a longtime smoker who developed fatal heart disease after smoking the company’s ci******es for nearly 50 years.
The Plaintiff argued that the company knowingly marketed dangerous and addictive products while concealing the risks, ultimately leading to the smoker’s addiction and death. The jury awarded $350,000 in damages but assigned 80% of the responsibility to the smoker, reducing the expected recovery to $70,000.

A Flagler County jury returned an $8.638 million verdict in favor of a commercial truck driver who suffered catastrophic injuries after a tractor-trailer lost control and caused his box truck to roll multiple times.
Despite clear dash cam footage of the crash and a rejected $2 million policy-limits demand, the defense initially offered just $525,000 before ultimately admitting liability two weeks before trial.
The Plaintiff sustained life-altering injuries including a cervical fusion, spinal fracture, torn ACL, shoulder injuries, head trauma, and permanent scarring, resulting in extensive medical treatment, ongoing pain, and loss of enjoyment of life.
