OAK BLUFFS, MA — This August, visitors to Martha's Vineyard are invited to experience the island through a powerful new lens as Chit Chat Atlanta Tours presents the Martha's Vineyard Black History & Legacy Tour Experience: Culture, Heritage & Legacy, an immersive cultural journey curated by Public Relations Strategist and Cultural Tour Experience Curator Carla Morrison.

Taking place Tuesday and Wednesday, August 11 & 12, 2026, the guided experience begins at 10:00 a.m. from 55 Narragansett Avenue in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts and explores the rich history, enduring traditions, and remarkable legacy that have made Martha's Vineyard one of the nation's most cherished destinations for generations of Black families.

More than a sightseeing excursion, the tour is designed to connect participants with the people, places, and stories that shaped the island's unique cultural identity.

"Our goal is to help people experience Martha's Vineyard beyond its beautiful beaches," said Morrison. "Every neighborhood, every landmark, and every gathering place tells a story of resilience, achievement, faith, joy, and community. We want our guests to leave with a deeper appreciation for the generations who built this extraordinary legacy."

Throughout the experience, guests will discover historic landmarks and hidden gems while learning about the island's significance in African American history and culture. Tour highlights include:

• Historic Black neighborhoods and landmarks throughout Oak Bluffs

• The iconic Inkwell Beach and its enduring legacy as a symbol of Black leisure, community, and excellence

• The historic church where abolitionist Frederick Douglass is documented to have spoken during his visits to Martha's Vineyard

• The cottage where Martin Luther King Jr. stayed while visiting the island and reflections on his connection to the Vineyard

• Stories highlighting the island's role as a gathering place for influential African American leaders, artists, educators, entrepreneurs, and changemakers

• Edgartown's fascinating maritime history, wealth built through the whaling industry, and its connection to the broader story of the island

• The cultural significance and economic impact of the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival, one of the nation's premier celebrations of Black filmmakers and storytellers

• A scenic journey through Chilmark and, time permitting, a visit to the breathtaking Aquinnah Cliffs, where guests will also learn about the history and enduring traditions of the Wampanoag people, the Island's original inhabitants

• A fun look at several recognizable locations featured in the acclaimed Netflix series Forever, offering guests an opportunity to see how the Vineyard continues to inspire contemporary storytelling
