Knowing how the scene ends can make you play the ending before it arrives.

Your character hasn’t read the script. Start with what they still believe they can protect, fix, or save. Then let what happens in the scene actually change them.

Two takes? Make sure they’re actually two different ideas.

A second take should give casting a genuinely different interpretation...not the same performance with a little more energy.

If take one says exactly what you want it to say, you don’t need a second take just because the option is there.

Second take = second interpretation. Not insurance.

Two lines can make actors work way too hard.

Instead of trying to make them bigger, get specific: Who are you talking to? What do you need from them? What just happened that made you speak?

You don’t need more lines. You need a clear reason to say the ones you have.

Auditioning gives you very little information — and our brains hate an empty space. So we fill it. Usually with the worst possible explanation.

But if casting didn’t give you feedback, you don’t have feedback.

Don’t change your work because of an answer you invented.

The hard part of a self-tape isn’t always getting a good take. Sometimes it’s believing the good take is enough.

At some point, “one more” stops being about improving the audition and starts being about trying to feel better about it.

If the instructions are handled, the relationship is clear, the work is alive, and the tape is professionally usable...pick the strongest take and let it go.

Another take isn’t always better work. Sometimes it’s just another take.

Trust me, the camera knows where you are.

Your job is not to manage the lens. It’s to affect the person you’re actually talking to.

That’s where the scene lives.
