This project is proof that the foundation matters just as much as the finish.
Strong posts, engineered framing, and a custom roof structure are coming together to create a deck built for decades of family gatherings,

Just… I’m no inspector, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t how that’s supposed to go.
Open splices, terminal blocks screwed to framing, and Romex just casually joining the party like it’s a science fair project.
Somewhere, a junction box is crying.

The quote for this covered deck addition was $33,000… so we decided to build it ourselves.”
The footings are poured, the roof framing is up, and the deck structure is taking shape. It may look like a job site today, but soon it'll be the favorite spot in the entire backyard.

$54,900 paid to a contractor with 15 years of experience, and the owner says expectations aren't being met! 😕⚠️
The owner claims progress has slowed and finishing details remain unresolved. 💸🏡 A deck should be a place to relax, not a source of stress and disappointment. Thoughts?

📐 Square, level, and built to last.
A great outdoor space is only as good as the skeleton underneath it. We're talking perfectly poured concrete footings, solid ledger attachment, heavy-duty joist hangers, and pristine multi-ply beams locked down tight. 🛠️💪
When your framing is this dialed in, the rest of the build is pure satisfaction. Next stop: decking boards! 🪵✨

Nobody compliments the support posts… until the deck is still standing 15 years later. 👏🏡
Behind every beautiful deck is a system of carefully engineered connections designed to handle real-world loads. Great construction isn't just about what you see—it's about the strength hidden underneath.

The roof may look impressive, but the real test is happening underneath. Load-bearing posts, beam connections, and proper support are what determine whether this structure lasts 15 years or becomes a costly repair project.

"Building dreams one deck at a time! 🌟 Excited to see this project come to life.

Is This Stringer Connection ok..? Having a set of stairs installed from the 2nd floor deck to the back yard. The builder put up a small landing off the deck and started to build the stairs. They have the stringers such that the top step is not level with the landing and are using Simpson LSTA straps to hang them. Does this seem proper >?

Another $10,800 invested into a home improvement project, yet the critical structural details are still raising questions.
