The RDS design philosophy starts with a heartfelt appreciation for seeing and hearing our clients dee

As I work with clients in their projects, and we plan a kitchen together, I’m always asking questions: What kind of life is this that we’re designing? What kind of beauty does it include? What capabilities will we bring to bear? I believe that life is beautiful. And that as a designer the culinary experience for my clients inside their kitchens and the sensuality of that is part of the goal. Whether it’s stated or not. Last night my clients and I worked together to create a meal with their Gaggenau appliances. Three of us working together and a whole new world of results only possible with these appliances opened up to them. I get a boost seeing this experience unfold for every client who lets me help. 06/14/2026

The proof is in the pudding.

The Milan Design Week happens every two years and is the most relevant and largest show for designers and the manufacturers that lead our industry. The show has two major elements- a large trade show at the Rho Fiera convention center on the edge of the city and the growing part- permanent and pop-up installations in the city center mainly from the premium and luxury markets. There are also art and design exhibits that show the creativity and amazing work of the international design community. Here are a few scenes from my day at the Rho Fiera complex. 04/24/2026

Milan is a design capital and has long been one. The site of Gaggenau’s Design Week exhibition is always the Villa Necchi. The villa was built in the early 1930s and has inspired me to see it each year that I come to Milan. I always see something new and innovative and inspiring that I had seen before. One of my favorites is the sunroom. With its sliding windows and retractable screens and a corner where glass meets glass not often found for decades later, it is a place I can imagine the Necchi sisters spent a lot of time. 04/24/2026

Gaggenau’s new Expressive Series of wall ovens, coffee machines and other appliances that go with them are treated like works of art in their exhibition in Milan this week. North American product manager Skyler Stevenson gives me a personal introduction to them and reveals the details behind the 10 years of product development leading to this significant product rollout. 04/23/2026

Every two years Gaggenau occupies the former tennis court of the Villa Necchi, an architectural masterwork of 1930s Milan, to introduce to the world at Design Week what is new for the world of design, what is next. The new Expressive Series is both new and next, and groundbreaking. 04/22/2026
