"Not a father. A dad."
There is a direct, distinct difference.
Out of the mouth of a child.
Unscripted. Unprompted. Unfiltered.
And it hit harder than anything an adult could've said.

Why would I not love him?
Like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Like the question itself was almost silly.
Because to her, it is.
He's not just the man who was there at the beginning.

He's the man who's been there every day since.
Camera in hand. Showing up. Recording the moments. Making her feel worth remembering.
That's the difference.
A father gives you life.
A dad shows up for it.
A father is biology.
A dad is a choice, made every single morning.

It's the man who stays when staying is hard.
Who cheers when no one else is watching.
Who makes you feel like you're the most important person in every room.
Anybody can be a father.
It takes nothing but a moment.

But a dad?
A dad is built over thousands of ordinary days.
Thousands of small decisions to choose his child over everything else.
Thousands of quiet sacrifices no one ever sees or applauds.
She knows the difference.
Kids always do.

They may not have the words for it yet.
But they feel it.
They feel who stays.
Who shows up.
Who makes them feel like they matter.
Be a dad.
Not just a father. 🤍

I won’t lie, I was not excited to become a stepfather at first. But I loved Erika so much I was willing to go all in for her.

And I’m unbelievably grateful that I did.

At the time, I could barely keep myself together, so the idea of helping raise a little girl felt like a lot. I didn’t really know what that role was supposed to look like, and I definitely didn’t know how much it would end up changing me.

But somewhere along the way, Kenzie became one of my best friends.

She’s 6 now, and she’s slowly becoming a little mini me. She wants to do the things I do. We play games together, go to card shops for Pokémon, do Jiu Jitsu, watch sports, and she’s always interested in whatever I’m into.

And selfishly, I love that.

I love having this little person beside me that I can share things with, teach things to, laugh with, and make memories with. I love watching her get excited about the same stuff I get excited about.

At the same time, I never want her to feel like she has to be me.

I want her to choose her own path. I want her to have her own interests, her own opinions, and her own way of seeing the world. I don’t want to tell her what to think. I want to teach her how to think.

That has always been huge to me.

Not everyone is wrong. Not everyone is right. People see the world differently because of how they were raised, what they’ve been through, what they’ve experienced, and what life has shown them.

I want her to understand perspective.

I want her to be able to disagree with someone and still understand where they’re coming from. I want her to think for herself. I want her to ask questions. I want her to make her own decisions.

And honestly, I think she’s starting to get it.

She’s independent. She’s caring. She pays attention to everything.

She sees me give things away or help people, and now she’s started doing the same thing on her own. Nobody has to tell her to do it. She sees it, understands it, and wants to do it too.

That means more to me than she probably understands right now.

The craziest part of all of this is what she brings out in me.

When it comes to Kenzie, I can’t help but try to be better.

More patient. More thoughtful. More present.

I think that’s what parenthood does to guys like me.

You spend so much of your younger life rebelling against the things your parents are trying to teach you. You think they’re being hard on you, controlling you, or lecturing you.

Then you get older and realize they were just trying to save you from learning everything the hard way.

Now I catch myself doing the same thing with her.

And if there’s anything I can pass down to Kenzie, I hope it’s the things I’ve learned to value most.

Enjoy the journey.

Life is short.

Make memories while you can.

Laugh a lot.

Make other people laugh.

Be kind when you can.

Help people even when there’s nothing in it for you.

Don’t panic when things go wrong.

There is almost always a solution if you slow down and think it through.

Try to understand people before judging them.

Be independent.

Be curious.

Be yourself.

And don’t waste too much time worrying about things that won’t matter one day.

I thought becoming a stepfather meant I was going to have to teach her how to navigate life.

What I didn’t expect was how much she would teach me too.

She makes me want to slow down.

She makes me want to be present.

She makes me want to be somebody worth looking up to.

And somehow, this little girl I never expected to need has become one of the most important people in my life.

The daughter I never knew I needed.

My little mini me.

And one of my best friends.

I Love you, Kenzie ♥️

That's it.
That's the whole thing.
No grand gesture.
No perfect setting.
No special occasion.

Just a tiny voice cutting through the noise of the world and saying the one thing that stops time.
You're my best friend.
Not a superhero. Not a provider. Not a protector.
A friend.
Their person.
And if you're a father and you've heard those words you know.

You know how it lands somewhere so deep that your chest doesn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Because you spend so much time worrying.
Am I doing enough?
Am I present enough?
Am I the dad they deserve?
And then out of nowhere they answer every single question.

Not with a speech.
With four words.
You are their world.
Not because you're perfect.
But because you showed up.

Because you were there for the small moments.
The car rides. The bedtimes. The random Tuesday afternoons.
They don't need you to be extraordinary.
They just need you to be there.

And you were.
So to every father carrying the weight of "am I enough"
Your kid just told you.
You're their best friend.
That's everything. 🤍

If you could have one splurge, what would you buy?
"A Jeep Wrangler."
Francis is a school custodian.
He mops floors. He cleans bathrooms. He does the work most people don't notice.
But he noticed them.
If a kid had a bad day, Francis was the first to ask: "Are you okay?"

Not because it was his job.
Because he cared.
He sends every extra dollar to his family in Ghana.
That Jeep? Just a dream he'd given up on.
But those kids?
They didn't forget.

"Let's do something nice for him. No one else is going to."
So they started a fundraiser.
Four months. $22,000.
Enough for a 2015 Jeep Wrangler.
And when they gave it to him, he broke.
Not because of the car.
But because someone finally saw him the way he'd been seeing them all along.
"Oh my God. I can't believe it. Jesus Christ."

He couldn't even get the words out.
Because his whole life, he'd been the one giving.
Sending money home. Checking on others. Showing up quietly, consistently, without asking for anything back.
And for once, the world gave back to him.

Not from strangers.
Not from charity.
From the kids he looked out for.
He'll never forget that day.
Not because of what he got.
But because of who remembered him.

You never know who's watching.
You never know whose life you're changing by just being kind.
Francis thought he was invisible.
But those kids saw everything.

And they proved something beautiful:
The people who give without expecting anything?
They're the ones who deserve everything.
Be like Francis. Show up. Care.
And trust that the love you put out will find its way back. 💙🚙

The whole world is a series of miracles, but we're so used to them we call them ordinary things.
Stop for a second.
Look around you.
You're sitting on a rock floating through space.

That rock is spinning at 1,000 miles per hour, and you don't feel it.
The sun, is keeping you alive right now.
Your heart is beating without you telling it to.
Your lungs are breathing without permission.

Your body is healing cuts, fighting infections, rebuilding cells, all while you sleep.
Every time you look at someone you love, light bounces off them, enters your eyes, and your brain translates it into an image.
That's a miracle.
But you call it "seeing."

Every morning, the sun rises.
Not because it has to.
But because the universe is structured in a way that makes it possible.
That's a miracle.

But you call it "Tuesday."
Every time you laugh with a friend, your brain releases chemicals that make you feel connected, safe, loved.
That's a miracle.

But you call it "hanging out."
We've gotten so used to the extraordinary that we've labeled it ordinary.
We've seen the sunrise so many times we forget to look up.
We've felt our heartbeat so consistently we forget it's working for us.

We've experienced love, laughter, beauty, connection and we scroll past it looking for something "more."
But what if there is no "more"?
What if the miracle is this?
The fact that you woke up today.
The fact that you can think, feel, choose.

The fact that you're alive on a planet that shouldn't exist, in a universe that doesn't owe you anything.
And yet here you are.
Breathing. Existing. Experiencing.
That's not ordinary.
That's everything.
You've just been calling it ordinary for too long. 🌙✨

You cannot give your life more time.
So give your time more life.
Read that again.
You're not getting more years.

No matter how healthy you eat, how hard you work, how careful you are.
The clock is ticking.
And you can't add time to it.
But you can add life to your time.

You can stop wasting days on things that don't matter.
You can stop waiting for the ""right moment"" to do what you love.
You can stop postponing joy, adventure, connection.
You can choose to live the time you have.

Not survive it. Not endure it.
Live it.
That means:
Saying yes to the trip.
Taking the risk.
Having the conversation.

Chasing the dream you've been putting off.
It means choosing presence over productivity.
Choosing memories over money.
Choosing the people you love over the things you think you need.

Because at the end, when you're looking back, you won't wish you had more time.
You'll wish you'd used the time you had differently.
So stop treating life like a rehearsal.
This is it.

Right now. This moment. This day.
You can't extend it.
But you can fill it.
With love. With laughter. With meaning.
With moments that make you feel alive.

Don't wait.
The time you have is all you'll ever get.
Make it count. 🌲💀

"What do I have to be thankful for?"
"Well, for one thing, you have a little brother who loves you."
And just like that everything shifts.
When you're in that mood, it's real.

The feeling that nothing ever goes right.
That you don't get the breaks other people do.
That you've never had anything and never will.
In that moment, you could count your blessings on one finger.
Because you can't see them.

Not because they're not there.
But because the darkness makes everything invisible.
And then someone reminds you.
Not with a lecture. Not with toxic positivity.
Just with truth.

You have someone who loves you.
Not conditionally. Not when you succeed.
But right now. In this moment. When you feel like you have nothing.
You have them.
That's not nothing.
That's everything.

The world will tell you to measure your worth in achievements, possessions, opportunities.
But at the end of the day?
The only blessings that matter are the people who stay.
The little brother who looks up to you.

The friend who shows up.
The person who loves you even when you can't love yourself.
You might not have everything.
But you have something money can't buy.

You have love.
And sometimes, that's the only blessing you need to keep going. 🤍

He stopped a stranger
on a busy street.
"Can you help me?"
Three words.

Most people kept walking.
Eyes down. Earphones in.
Too much to do, too far to go, too little time
to stop for someone they didn't know.

That's not cruelty.
That's just the world
moving too fast
to notice itself.

But one person stopped.
Didn't sigh.
Didn't look around
to see if someone else would do it.

Just stopped. Turned.
And helped.
Nobody filmed it for the likes.
Nobody clapped.
Nobody wrote about it.

It lasted maybe thirty seconds.
But for the man who asked, it meant someone saw him.
Someone heard him.
Someone chose him
over wherever they were going.

That's it.
That's the whole thing.
Kindness isn't always grand.
It doesn't always look like
a jersey over a kid's head
or a hero saving someone from danger.

Sometimes it's thirty seconds
on a sidewalk, in the middle of a Tuesday.
And it costs you nothing
but the willingness to slow down
long enough
to be human. 🤍
