During our “Bite Size Research” program, students will learn about why scientists may want to look at the stomach contents of a fish to make management decisions. Students will make predictions about the type of diet two fish species have based on their tooth shape and will then assist with a mock stomach content analysis study to see if their predictions were correct.

You can officially see real dinosaur tracks at Dinosaur Valley State Park, Government Canyon State Natural Area, and San Angelo State Park.

Come join us in November with Ranger Natalie at Caprock Canyons! Students will explore the life cycles, structures, behaviors, and ecological roles of butterflies and moths, with a special focus on species found in the Caprock region. Through this lesson, students will compare these insects, understand metamorphosis, identify key physical traits, and explain how butterflies and moths support healthy ecosystems.

Spotlight Session: Time Eras, Geology, and Dinosaurs (Interactive) 🦖🌎
Get ready to explore Earth’s past! In this fun, interactive session, students will travel through different time eras using colorful graphics and visuals. We’ll learn how Pangaea formed, how ancient oceans created fossils, and why a huge “missing chapter” in the rocks at Caprock Canyons matters. Students will meet amazing creatures from each time period—like Dimetrodon, early dinosaurs, and giant Miocene mammals.
We’ll also discover the Ogallala Aquifer and finish with two incredible ocean giants: Megalodon and Livyatan. 🦈🐋
