October is a time of many special anniversaries for us. October 1st marks 5 years of the enchanted pig forest. October 6th marks our official 10 years as a nonprofit. October 15th marks 10 years since the Bastrop Seizure pigs found safety with us.
We have many stories to tell.
Sometimes, as anniversaries approach I don’t think about the day itself. I think about the toil and worry and optimism and work of the days and weeks ahead.
Today, I’m thinking about how the my friends Rose, Ace, Dorothy, Atlas, Dora, Agnes…and so many others…may have felt 10 years ago today.
As we approach 10 years, and there’s no day we take for granted. But in order for our next decade to even bigger, better, and more impactful, we need your help. Whether this is your first donation or 50th, your dollars are supporting the care of our sanctuary residents, and helping us to amplify our advocacy to help more pigs beyond our 26 acres. Thank you for believing in us.

Yall, the pigs love to make friends…and they KNOW good people. Last week the pigs added pop icon SLAYYYTER to their group chat 🫶🏼🤳🏼
Slayyyter is a BIG fan of pigs, and we were honored to help her celebrate her birthday when her manager surprised her with a visit to the sanctuary while on tour in ATX. The whole band and crew were so incredibly kind, curious and respectful.
Honestly, there’s nothing quite like seeing joy shared between people and pigs, and watching the birthday girl completely light up made the pigs’ day. 💗🐷

A long video, a slow video, a video most people won’t watch through. But this is what we do: we aren’t making exciting and flashy rescue moments as much these days. We’re managing aging bodies and happy retirements for being that society has betrayed. They’re survivors and so worthy, simply for existing. Their worthiness isn’t tied to a product or outcome. They are deserving simply because they are.
The brutality of the summer feels endless. More moments are bound up in fear and anxiety than joy or delight. But we push on and do our best, every day. We’re thankful for the doctors and vet techs and helpers who make miracles happen for us all the time, or at least try their best to as well.
Since we built the GetWell Hotel, it’s almost never been a vacancy. It can comfortably hold two residents but three can work in a pinch, like Latifah here who’s spending most of her time indoors in the a/c except for some outdoor time in the morning and evening when it’s a bit more comfortable out. Some stays are long, some are short, but the goal is simple - a controlled and clean environment with ac or heat, and a path to recovery faster. It’s been a lifeline for every surgery or medical challenge. I think back to challenging medical cases from years ago and I wish we had it, but we only have what our resources allow. It’s important for anyone to understand that every dollar that comes to us has a real tangible impact - maybe it’s going to a a medical bill for Leah’s surgery or for new mats for George in his suite or for supplements for residents or for a fence panel or air conditioner repair when it’s needed. But it all helps them, and we can’t thank you enough for helping them.

Our friends at Zucchini Kill are baking up sheet cakes this weekend to benefit the pigs, and we were lucky enough to bring a little taste back for Leah and Latifah.
