I had to substitute, not one, not two, but three varieties of flowers in this wedding. And I wanted to see how long it would take me.

I set the clock and got to work! I found each item on my summary page, clicked on each one that needed to be subbed out and swapped in a comparable replacement with a similar cost.

I slapped the stop watch ⏱️ and saw 2:42 🤯

It took less than 3 minutes to swap out 3 flowers while protecting my profit margin!! 😮‍💨

And recently Lynda Lynda/Florist /Lodi, CA + Mesa,AZ said this about a few weddings she was updating in her EveryStem account, “honestly LuAnn Dickson • Founder • EveryStem Florist Software has made it so easy to make quick pricing changes. I didn’t start small. I went all in!! I put all my eggs into one basket (bought a floral design/ retail shop) and said, “Let’s FAFO!”

So the excuse: “You don’t become a florist to make money!!” - it just wasn’t gonna work for me!

As a floral design business owner, the pressure to “provide for the community” and to “offer value to clients” can be overwhelming. It was for me at first!!

I had to step back after the first few months and realize that the only person accountable for my flower shop staying viable was me. 🙋🏻‍♀️

All the requests for donations from people who’ve never stepped foot in my shop, denied! 🚫

People who wanted to price compare my business to a large chain of grocery stores, buh bye!! ✌️

Anyone who wanted to skip out on paying tax, asked me to “just lower the price” or said “I’m not that into flowers” 😳 ummm there’s the door >>> 🚪 you are not my kinda client!!

But the people in my community who LOVE flowers, love supporting local businesses, want to invite a high level of creativity and beauty into their home or office or special event… are my people!!!

And they see the value of bespoke design. They see the value of hand-picked, high quality, long lasting flowers. They love what I offer and although it’s not a massive number of people, it’s enough to make a healthy profit each year!

So, I focused solely on those people! And I highly recommend you do the same!!

Me (in my 28 year old brain): HOLY 🔥 balls. This is gonna be super expensive and I should suggest some cheaper options. 😬 SO AFRAID

Me (out loud): Sounds lovely! I’m so glad you know exactly what you want and I’m excited to design it for you. 😃 SUPER EXCITED

Fear was messing with my brain!! I didn’t know how to use the rush of energy this type of request produced. But, I knew that if I could turn that fear into excitement it would be a game-changer! (And I’d get the chance to make a $700 bouquet and fabulous centerpieces. 🙀).

The mindset shift from fear to excitement transformed me from being afraid of her saying “it’s too expensive” into me being excited for the opportunity to create something I’d never done before!

This was the biggest & most expensive wedding I’d ever done at this point in my career and I had to work through my mental block in real time in order to level up. This wasn’t a pricing problem or a client problem. This was a LuAnn problem and I was determined to fix it!

3 things I did to push past my mental block:

• Shifted my mindset & felt proud that my services were the premium option they’d been searching for!
