Being a father has a way of making you realize just how fast time flies. One minute they’re taking their first steps, and the next they’re grown with lives of their own.
After spending an afternoon with his firstborn son, Scotty, Mac was inspired to write “Watching Scotty Grow,” a song about those everyday moments that seem small at the time but become the memories you cherish most. The heartfelt tribute became one of his most beloved songs and remains a timeless reflection on fatherhood.

Our family is saddened to hear of the passing of Tom Dreesen.
Tom frequently joined Mac on stage and, over the years, became a treasured friend. He was a genuinely kind and generous man who was always there when needed, including helping with Mac’s 70th birthday celebration and later his Celebration of Life.
We will remember Tom not only for the laughter he brought to so many, but also for his friendship, warmth, and unwavering support. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Solving mysteries wasn’t exactly in the job description, but Mac Davis starring as Sheriff Underwood made it look easy.

At last night’s Songwriters Hall of Fame efwevent, Lise Davis had the opportunity to meet Belmont University student Daire McLeod, one of the inaugural recipients of the SHOF / Mac Davis “Song Painter” Scholarship.
The Davis family is proud to see Mac’s passion for authentic storytelling and great songwriting continue to inspire the next generation of artists.

When BMI President Frances W. Preston presented Mac with his Songwriters Hall of Fame award, it marked the culmination of decades spent doing what he loved most, being a song painter.
The Songwriters Hall of Fame honors the creators behind the music, and being recognized by his peers was one of the most meaningful achievements of Mac’s career.
Congratulations to tonight’s inductees and the families celebrating alongside them. What a special night for songwriters everywhere.

What a privilege it is to be a songwriter, sharing your words, melodies, and stories with the world, and knowing they can live far beyond the moment they’re written.
