Mac Davis

Mac Davis was an all-around entertainer: songwriter, singer, film and stage actor, TV and radio personality and performer. Mac wrote several hits for Elvis Presley, including "In the Ghetto," "Memories," and "Don't Cry Daddy." His breakout smash hit for Presley, "A Little Less Conversation," became popular to a new generation after appearing in the 2001 film Ocean's 11. Mac also recorded his own hits, such as "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me," "My Bestest Friend," "It's Hard to be Humble," and "Texas in my Rearview Mirror," and penned hit songs with Avicii, Bruno Mars, Dolly Parton, and Weezer among many others. Aside from music, Mac hosted Labor of Love, a live radio show, and had starring roles in both TV and film, playing Carl on the ABC series Rodney, co-starring with Nick Nolte in the sports classic North Dallas Forty, and also had starring roles in The Sting II, Cheaper to Keep Her, and Possums, as well as playing the title role in Will Rogers Follies on Broadway. Mac has been inducted into several halls of fame and won multiple awards, including the Academy of Country Music's Entertainer of the Year Award in 1974 and the inaugural People's Choice Award for Favorite Male Singer in 1975. Throughout his life, Mac used his celebrity status to support charitable organizations, such as the FAME Girls' Ranch and Pasadena's Humane Society. In 1998, he was awarded a star symbol on Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame and even has a street named after him in his hometown of Lubbock, called Mac Davis Lane.
