I'm an Austin-based functional potter working from my garage studio. The process is as valuable as the end product!
My wheel-thrown ceramics explore the space where function and decoration meet, using underglaze painting and carved detail. Sarah Reesor graduated in 2009 from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where she studied with Patrick Veerkamp and Chris Campbell, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Ceramics. From 2009-2012 Sarah worked out of the studio of Ryan McKerley in Austin, Texas, and in 2012 she moved to South Lake Tahoe, California, where she currently is working from a home studio, and from Ogres-Holm Pottery in Carson City, Nevada. Sarah's ceramics are almost exclusively thrown, and she works primarily in Laguna B-mix, cone six. Sarah is particularly interested in various forms of surface decoration, especially painting with underglazes, and in exploring the boundaries between functional and decorative ceramics.

Another pumpkin! I really do enjoy these closed forms, though I’ve had some cracking issues with the pumpkins so I may need to dry a little slower next time.

I’m slowing down my production a bit until my next show (Austin Studio Tour in Nov) so expect to see more crafts and other projects on my page! These little Christmas trees were a lot of fun to throw and even more fun to carve! They are going to be little luminaries and will come with a small electronic tea light.
Watch me paint a prickly pear bloom! Keep an eye out in the middle for a little bit of real time speed. I’m excited about this new design and will have two tumblers with it after my next firing.
