This summer our campers traveled back to the 1980s for a week full of creativity, color, and imagination! 🎮🎨

Campers designed and created their own handheld video games – no electricity required! They also explored the bold and playful art of Keith Haring by creating self-portraits inspired by his iconic style.

To wrap up the week, campers decorated reusable bags, creating something colorful and useful that they could take with them beyond camp.
From art to games and everything in between, our campers had a totally awesome time traveling back to the ’80s! ✨

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, ARF’s Summer Learning Program is completely free for all youth, giving campers the opportunity to learn, create, explore, and experience something new all summer long.

We had an amazing morning with our LATT Network partners at last week’s Fall All-Partner Convening!

We were excited to welcome Mayor Kirk Watson, who kicked off the morning by sharing more about Gen ATX and the work underway to help make Austin a great place for young people to grow up, learn, and thrive

We also learned about Every Kid, Every Community, a TXPOST and Wallace Foundation initiative focused on Building Community OST Champions and highlighting the importance of strong out-of-school time opportunities for kids and communities across Texas.

And we made plenty of time for what the LATT Network does best: connecting and learning together. Partners made new connections during LATT Link-Up, and put their Network knowledge to the test with a little Jeopardy and received updates from Raising Travis County!

Thank you to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area for hosting us and thanks to everyone who joined us, shared your ideas, and continues to show up for youth across our community. We’re so grateful for this network—and for the work we get to do together.

Peace, creativity, and a little fondue! ✌️ This summer our campers traveled back to the 1960s for a week of art, history, and hands-on learning.

Campers explored the Civil Rights Movement by creating monuments to civil rights leaders using reusable materials. Their creativity was incredible and inspiring! They learned about the bold, colorful style of Andy Warhol through their own self-portraits and worked together to create peace murals representing their teams. They even tried a popular food from the decade – fondue!

To bring history to life, campers visited the LBJ Presidential Library, where they had the opportunity to learn more about this important period in US history. The campers agreed that it was a groovy week!

This summer our campers traveled back to the 1920s for a week filled with creativity, art, and a little Hollywood glamour! 📽️✨

Campers stepped into the world of silent films by writing and starring in their own movies. At the end of the week, we rolled out the red carpet for a special premiere where campers could celebrate their creations. ⭐

They also explored the art of Frida Kahlo by creating self-portraits inspired by her unique style and got active on the field with the Austin FC Verde Leaders. ⚽️

From Camper to Counselor! 💙

One of the most special parts of the ARF Summer Program is watching our youth grow, and then watching them come back to help the next generation grow, too.

This summer, two of our alumni returned to the ARF summer program as Mentors in Training (MITs). Once campers themselves, they stepped into leadership roles, built relationships, encouraged younger children, helped lead activities, and became positive role models for the kids who look up to them.

We watched our MITs gain valuable leadership, communication, teamwork, and workplace skills while discovering that their voices, experiences, and presence matter. And we watched our campers look up to them, learn from them, and see a little bit of their own future in these young leaders.

This is what investing in young people looks like. When we give youth opportunities to lead, they don't just benefit individually. They give back, strengthen their community, and create a ripple effect that reaches far beyond our program.

We wrap up our Summer Around the World with a dive through the Great Barrier Reef! This week ARF campers learned about Oceania through hands-on activities like creating coral reef dioramas and holding their very own Australian Open with the Capital Area Tennis Association. We further explored Oceania by making SCUBA self-portraits, learning to hula dance, and trying the infamous Australian snack: Vegemite!

We wrapped up our last day of camp with a silent disco and glow party!
