There’s something very special about hearing people you care about describe a moment that meant so much to you, in their own words.

I’m still wrapping my head around what happened two weeks ago, and forgive me because I’ll probably be talking about it for the rest of my life. 😂

To everyone who came, cheered, sang, danced, bought a ticket, sent a message, shared a post, or simply wanted this night to go well for me — thank you.

You showing up for me changed my life forever, and hearing these reactions afterward makes the whole thing mean even more.

I was thinking about this today:

Why is it so easy to say things like…

“I suck at this.”
“I’m terrible at that.”
“I’m bad with names.”
“I can’t do this.”
“I’m just not good at it.”

…and believe them almost immediately?

But when it comes to saying something good about ourselves, suddenly it feels harder.

If you can tell yourself those negative things over and over…

why can’t you tell yourself the opposite?

“I’m good at this.”
“I’m good at that.”
“I’m good with names.”
“I can do this.”
“I am intelligent.”
“I’m good at math.”

Why does the negative get to stay…

but the positive doesn’t?

Why?

Why can’t the positive stay too?

It’s all about what we keep telling ourselves.

So how about you start telling yourself good things today?

Positive things.

Even if you don’t fully believe them yet.

Just say them.

Then say them again.

And again.

You have nothing to lose anyway.

Here’s something you can do today:

Take one negative thing you constantly say about yourself.

Write it down.

Now write the opposite underneath it.

And every time you catch yourself saying the negative one today, say the positive one too.

Start there.

What’s one thing you’re going to start telling yourself differently? ❤️

My drummer Arturo once said, “You never know what you’re going to get with Pascal Kerong’A.”

He was right. 😂

Sometimes, I don’t even know what I’m going to get from myself.

I love being surprised — including by myself. I think that’s part of what keeps performing exciting for me. Sometimes something starts one way, and I change it in real time.

There are a lot of things that go into preparing for a show that the audience never sees, and this is one of the things I deal with almost every time.

I get very nervous before a show, even though the nerves usually disappear the second I step onstage.

For example, here we had already finished soundcheck. We had about an hour and a half before the opener’s set, and about two and a half hours before mine. The band invited me to go get dinner with them, but I said no.

They left, and I stayed at the venue.

To kill time and keep myself busy, I started setting up the merch table.

It’s funny how much of a show happens before you ever step onstage.

To the artists and performers here: do y’all deal with anything similar before a show?

And if you do, how do you handle it?
