When unexpected hardship hits, the MHEC Gap Fund provides direct financial assistance to birth workers and childcare providers helping them keep going when they need it most. Because care should be reciprocal.

On August 28, join us for a national day of giving in support of Black-led and Black-benefiting nonprofits. This historic day has seen many pivotal moments in Black history, from From Emmett Till to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Through MHEC’s member organizations, thousands of Central Texas families have received free doula care, midwifery services, childcare, childbirth education, and other perinatal and postpartum support.

We're happy to welcome our new Development Manager, Lauren Lluveras to the MHEC team! We are now a small and mighty team of 3 serving 8 community based member organizations who share the mission to make birth safer for Black and Brown families in Central Texas.

Lauren is a PhD candidate in African & African Diaspora Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. She previously served as the Immigration and Economic Justice Policy Manager at the Texas Council on Family Violence and held a Juris Doctor Post-Doctoral Fellowship at UT Austin's Institute for Urban Policy Research and Analysis, where she researched policies impacting Black Texans. As a community organizer, Lauren has worked across Central Texas to advance equitable health policies by bringing together communities, policymakers, and public institutions.
