The development would have included no true affordability component - โaffordableโ units were promised to families of four with an up-to-80% yearly Median Family Income (MFI) which is $90,000. The MFI for families in Montopolis is 40%, less than $50,000; we need deeply affordable housing now, and we need housing for longtime residents who fight to remain in Montopolis and other communities in the eastern crescent across generations.

The rezoning case will be heard ๐ง๐ต๐๐ฟ๐๐ฑ๐ฎ๐, ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ต ๐ญ๐ฎ, ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ ๐ฃ๐ and is being rushed to the dais despite concerns about neighborhood safety, environmental impact, and whether or not the housing built will benefit the Montopolis community thatโs lived here over generations.

Excited to join a community organizing panel hosted by and to talk about how we use social media as a tool for organizing, political education, and narrative power.
Through collective work with Community Powered ATX, weโve used digital storytelling, reels, infographics, and teach-ins to break down housing policy, affordability, displacement, and land use in ways that are accessible and rooted in lived experience. Social media isnโt just content, itโs a strategy to shift narratives, build collective understanding, and move people into action.
Weโll also be sharing how weโve woven this into from producing the East Side Fellows podcast to using arts, culture, and storytelling to connect housing, environmental justice, and culture. Grateful to be in conversation about how digital tools can strengthen real-world power. See yโall there. ๐ฑ๐ ๐ฅ
