FLOOD THREAT INCREASES TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY:

Good (rainy) Tuesday morning! We've had our own fair share of some heavy downpours across Central Texas this morning, but it's nowhere near what they've experience in areas just west of Hondo, where radar is estimating over 14" of rain have fallen so far, leading to ongoing flash flooding for those spots

This is largely due to a small localized area of mid-level spin, or, in fancy meteorological jargon, a "mesoscale convective vortex" (MCV), that continues to regenerate rounds of rain and storms over that location.

We have experienced some bands of rain wrapping around that spin (MCV) this morning. While we'll see this continue through late this morning & early afternoon in spots, there will likely be a solid lull in activity by late this afternoon into this evening for several of us. Regardless, we will continue to closely monitor our flood threat, especially in our southwest Hill Country zones closest to where that MCV sits. That's where there is a level 3 out of 4 risk for flash flooding today.

Additional storms are set to redevelop by Wednesday afternoon.

Stay weather aware these next couple of days! As we know, conditions can change quickly with any kind of heavy rain threat across area, so it is important to have a way of receiving alerts.

We continue to chip away at our drought, y'all!

Latest drought monitor showing a continued shrink in our area of severe drought, with Travis and Hays county almost completely out of severe drought. That's what we like to see!

4 days until the Fourth! 🎆

We'll be hot & dry this Fourth of July holiday weekend across Central Texas, with highs in the mid- to upper 90s. Great boating and pool weather! (and a big difference from the catastrophic rainfall we had last year... which we are very, very thankful for).

First heat alerts of the season have been issued and we're going straight to an Excessive Heat Warning for the Austin metro tomorrow.

Temps in the upper 90s + high humidity = a heat index near 115°. It's going to be rough out there, folks! Stay hydrated and stay in the AC when you can.

No more "Extreme" drought in Central Texas!

Our latest drought monitor showing big improvements thanks to the rain we received last week. All extreme drought has been eliminated from our area. 👏

First 🍋 of the season!

The NHC is highlighting an area in the Bay of Campeche for a very low chance of tropical development late this week. Conditions are not expected to be favorable for development, but we'll be watching an influx of tropical moisture into TX early next week.

I have the best coworkers!

Little early birthday celebration at work on this Friday with Yvonne Nava KVUE’s famous tres leches cake and some presents (sparkling wine! 😋) from Hannah Rucker News. Feeling very grateful going into this new lap around the sun.

Another day, another round of evening & overnight storms. ⛈️

Our next round will begin in Hill Country sometime between 6-8pm. From there, it will move over I-35 sometime between 9-11pm. We'll have to watch for the risk of localized flooding and wind gusts of 60mph+.
