We sometimes get questions about whether Beerburg is still a family affair. The answer: Yup!
Siblings Ross, Trevor, and Elizabeth each bring something different to the table, but they share a love of craft beer, community, curiosity, and creating spaces where people can gather.
It's not always easy building something together, but we're grateful they do.
Beerburg wouldn't be Beerburg without the Nearburgs. 🌳🍺
One of the things that makes Beerburg unique is our connection to the Texas landscape. The more you learn about it, the more fascinating the Hill Country becomes!
Today, we're introducing a few of the plants that make Beerburg, Beerburg with plants you might find in some of our beers.
Estafiate (Mugwort) - a sweet and herbal Artemesia, this "dreaming herb" lends beautifully to sweet styles like barleywines and reds. Add some barrel-aging and you've got some of our favorite beers we've ever released.
Agarita - an amazing plant with all kinds of medicinal advantages. We use the berries, which taste a bit like cranberries and apples and go great in a blonde ale.
Flameleaf Sumac - the leaves turn a brilliant red in the fall, and the berry clusters are the perfect kind of tart for wheat beer. We just poured the last pint of our Sumac Wit, so keep an eye out for it again next Summer!
Texas Mallow - another plant that's good for you, it's mucilaginous characteristics are beneficial for all your body's mucus (like Okra). It's fruit has a subtle, sweet, apple, floral flavor, but we're still working on how to best incorporate it into beer.
Yarrow - A bitter, lemony herb that has a really fun use as nature's bandaid. You can find this currently on tap in our Yarrow Berliner!
Native Persimmons - Not the big orange fruit you find in the store, these persimmons are dark, with notes of molasses and vanilla. They go great in dark, rich beers which is why you'll see it featured in our Persimmon Dark Strong. On tap next week!
We hope you enjoy learning a bit more about what you'll find growing in our (literal) Beer Garden. Cheers!
