Sometimes the biggest shift isn’t around you. It’s in you.

You’ve been driving for hours, your clock is running down, and you find an open rest area. Can you park your truck there long enough to complete your 10-hour break? It depends on the state.

Here is what we found:
Texas: up to 24 hours.
Oregon: up to 12 hours in a 24-hour period.
Washington: up to 11 hours at many rest areas for commercial vehicles.
Minnesota: up to 10 hours for HOS-regulated CMV drivers, at rest areas with designated CMV parking.
Florida: up to 10 hours for commercial drivers subject to HOS rules.
California: up to 10 hours for commercial motor vehicles.
Tennessee: 2-hour limit and no overnight parking.
Virginia: no overnight parking at VDOT rest areas.

Best rule: check the signs and the rules before shutting down!
