Association for the Study of the Arts in Africa and in the African Diasporas

ASAAD explores and promotes new epistemological directions for the study of the arts of Africa and the Africa Diasporas. It departs from the present direction of imposing alien aesthetics on the study and apprehension of African creative productions, seeks to redefine the discipline of African art and art history with new insights, drawing on indigenous systems of knowledge and discourse as the basis for analyzing the arts and artistic traditions of all peoples of Africa and the African Diasporas, from the ancient times to the present.
