Honored to attend Governor Greg Abbott’s announcement recognizing October as Law Enforcement Appreciation Month!
The men and women of the Austin Police Department serve our community and protect Texas’ capital city with dedication, courage, and professionalism. Their work is demanding, and the sacrifices they and their families make deserve recognition year-round.
At the Austin Police Association, we’re proud to represent these officers, stand behind them, and advocate for the support they deserve.

Following several recent opioid overdoses, Downtown Area Command (DTAC) officers teamed up with Austin-Travis County EMS medics to provide Narcan kits to businesses along East 6th Street.
Narcan is a simple-to-administer nasal spray that can rapidly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose—giving someone a critical second chance while first responders are on the way.
This is what proactive public safety looks like: police, EMS, and our community working together to put lifesaving tools in the hands of the people who may need them most.
A small kit can make a lifesaving difference.

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation was changed forever.
On September 11, 2001 – 2,977 innocent lives were taken in acts of unimaginable terror. In the midst of that tragedy, we also witnessed extraordinary courage – firefighters, police officers, paramedics, service members, and everyday Americans running toward danger, helping strangers, and putting others before themselves.
For those in public safety, 9/11 carries a special weight. We remember the 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, 37 Port Authority police officers, and the many other first responders who gave their lives that day – as well as those who have suffered and died in the years since from illnesses connected to their service at Ground Zero.
But remembering 9/11 is about more than recalling a tragedy. It is about remembering the lives that were lost, the families forever changed, the courage shown in our darkest hours, and the sense of unity that reminded us just how much we share as Americans.
A generation has now grown up with no personal memory of that morning. That makes our responsibility to remember – and to teach why we remember – even more important.
Today, the Austin Police Association pauses to honor the fallen, the survivors, the families, and every person who answered the call to serve.
We remember the sacrifice. We remember the courage. We will never forget.

Some visitors just have a little more horsepower than others. 🐴🚔
APD Mounted Patrol made a surprise stop at school, and judging by the smiles, we’re pretty sure they made a few new friends along the way.
Community policing looks a little different when it comes with four hooves. Thanks to our Mounted Patrol officers — and their partners — for making this a school day these kids won’t soon forget! 💙
Yee-Haw! 🐴🤠⭐️
This morning, some of our youngest students were surprised with some visitors from Austin Police Mounted Patrol.
During the impromptu visit, students were able to learn the horses’ names (Hi, Ike!), how much they weigh (1,000 pounds!!), and even got a chance to pet them while the officers fed them treats.
Thank you for your service and patience, Officers!

Here you go, Councilwoman — we fixed it for you.
How out of touch do you have to be to turn a social media trend into a victory lap over decisions that went against the recommendations of the very public safety professionals the City hired for their expertise?
These aren’t trendy talking points. These are decisions that affect 911 operations, first responders, and their ability to serve Austinites efficiently when seconds matter. Which council is now compromising.
The actions Council took yesterday were concerning enough. Celebrating them like this is wildly inappropriate.
Public safety isn’t “kinda chic.” It’s a responsibility.
Happy Retirement K9 Brooks! Enjoy the good life, you’ve been an awesome partner not just for SPO Butler but for our entire department. We’ll miss you on the streets!
