In this outstanding 2-part video presentation, Leanne Venier, an artist, engineer, and eastern medicine practitioner, offers a comprehensive exploration of ayahuasca including its healing properties, ceremonial practices, preparation, and the importance of guidance by qualified shamans. In Part 2 of this series, Leanne Venier recounts her personal journey into the Amazonian rainforest of Peru to participate in a Shaman-guided ayahuasca healing retreat involving several ceremonies. Leanne describes how intuition guided her decision to travel to Peru, culminating in the discovery of a donation-based retreat run by La Familia Medicina, a shaman-led family organization that is known for their authentic, safe, and community-focused approach. (PLEASE NOTE: La Familia Medicina has since ceased operations.) Emphasizing the retreat’s intimate setting, traditional ceremony protocols, and supportive environment, Leanne provides detailed insight into the intense physical, emotional, and visionary experiences encountered during multiple ceremonies.

We’ve got a special video presentation for you this month—a double header interview with Dr. Eben Alexander, whose book “Proof of Heaven,” opened up the subject of near-death experience to the general public. Joe Lam (coordinator of the Community Group of IONS Austin) and I were thrilled to get a chance to interview Dr. Alexander when he was visiting Austin on March 7th, 2020, just as the country was about to go on “lock-down” due to the spreading pandemic. In fact, I believe these were the last two in-person interviews that Dr. Alexander did prior to having to cancel all his travel plans. Because we were not able to have a live audience at these events, these interviews have not been seen before. These interviews are shorter in length than our typical presentations (30 and 20 minutes), but we managed to dive deep and pack a lot of great insights into them. Joe and I decided the best way to watch these is to watch the one I did with Dr. Alexander first, and then to watch Joe’s in which they explore ramifications for the future of humanity. In this first interview, neurosurgeon Dr. Eben Alexander discusses with psychologist Robert Price, Ph.D., how his Near-Death Experience profoundly shook his understanding of the nature of consciousness and reality itself. He came back a very changed man. His experience and research following it drove him to the realization that our conventional view of consciousness—that it is merely a product of our brains—is completely wrong. To illustrate this point, Dr. Alexander delves into many examples of “nonlocal consciousness,” such as remote viewing, out-of-body experience (OBE), precognition and telepathy. Following from these examples, he asserts that the fundamental basis of reality is actually consciousness itself rather than what we experience as “objective” reality.

He goes on to explain how we can use meditation, including meditation incorporating differential sound frequencies (otherwise known as “binaural beat” technology) to tap into nonlocal consciousness and liberate our conscious awareness from the “here and now.”

Dr. Alexander sees things like out-of-body experience and near-death experience as manifestations of the many layers of consciousness that lead us back to the origin of all that is—the infinite dimensional space and eternity—that is our true home. He uncovers and describes scientific evidence for these realms in our dreams and lucid dreams, near death experiences, “shared death experiences,” reincarnation, after-death communication, and psychedelic drug research.

In this video, Dr. Eben Alexander is interviewed by Joe Lam--Community Group Leader with IONS Austin. Joe begins the interview by recounting how Dr. Edgar Mitchell’s samadhi experience onboard Apollo 14 while returning from the moon to Earth profoundly changed his life forever, and led him to found the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS). Joe asks Dr. Alexander how his own NDE experience changed his life and his view of humanity; Dr. Alexander shares how his NDE journey completely flipped his view of life and humanity. In both cases, their respective experiences led to a profound shift and awakening to the oneness of mind, fundamental consciousness of the universe, and infinite human potential.

Dr. Eben Alexander III is a neurosurgeon and author. His book Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon's Journey into the Afterlife (2012) describes his 2008 near-death experience and asserts that science can and will determine that the brain does not create consciousness and that consciousness survives bodily death. Dr. Alexander is also the author of the 2014 book The Map of Heaven which builds upon the claims in his previous book, and coauthor of the 2017 book Living in a Mindful Universe which describes his personal journey since 2008.

In February 2019 Tricia Barker appeared on the Dr. Oz TV Show sharing her Near-Death Experience. For this presentation, she returned to Austin in person to share her extraordinary story with our IONS audience.

In 1994, during her senior year at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, Tricia Barker was severely injured in an auto accident. In critical condition, she was rushed to the ER. While on the operating table, she flat-lined and entered into an ethereal realm. In that moment, the whole of Tricia’s life changed dramatically. What happened during that fateful experience beyond the veil? In the aftermath, a “new” Tricia arose, and she found herself on a mission she would’ve never envisioned.

Tricia’s memoir, Angels in the OR: What Dying Taught Me About Healing, Survival, and Transformation, tells the story of her near-death experience, teaching mission, and eventual triumph over trauma in her past. Her story also shines a light on the importance of being of service and giving unconditional love to others.

OUR SPEAKER:

Tricia Barker experienced a profound near-death experience during her senior year of college; this experience transformed her life and guided her to teach overseas, in public schools, and at the college level. Today, Tricia is a college professor, working often times with socio-economically deprived young people, fostering hope, vision, and new beginnings.

The story of her near-death experience has been featured in media outlets including The Biography Channel’s "I Survived: Beyond and Back," National Geographic Magazine, Women’s World Magazine, Simple Grace Magazine, and The Doctor Oz Show.

Tricia is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. She received her MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College. Currently she teaches English at a beautiful community college in Fort Worth, Texas.

Since her NDE, Tricia has dedicated her life to teaching & spreading the word of what lies beyond. She podcasts and travels, supporting other NDE’rs and sharing her NDE story with a broad audience across the country. On her YouTube channel, she interviews other near-death experiencers, researchers, healers, and mediums.
