The Neighborhood Longhorns Program aims to encourage self-discipline, promote enthusiasm for learning and increase student success.

The Neighborhood Longhorns Program is the premier educational outreach program for The University of Texas at Austin offering 2nd through 8th graders in Title I schools the opportunity to envision attending college through incentives and scholarships. The Neighborhood Longhorns Program (NLP), established in 1991, is an educational incentive program operated in partnership with the Austin Independent School District (AISD) in 37 Title 1 elementary and middle schools. The major goals of the program are to: improve overall grade performance; improve reading, math, science, and language arts skills; increase student retention rates and provide scholarships for students to obtain a college education. The program serves economically disadvantaged youth in grades 2 through 8 who are at higher risks of experiencing academic difficulties, including low grade performance, low performance on tests, low school attendance and higher rates of dropping out of school. NLP presents tangible incentives to students to better their individual achievement over the course of the academic year.

Last Friday, invited Neighborhood Longhorns to attend their USA vs. Australia watch party at the UT Club! ⚽📱

The kids had the opportunity to test out Motorola phones while putting their World Cup knowledge to the test with fun soccer trivia. They also enjoyed a special photo opportunity with members of the Texas Soccer team.

Thank you to Motorola for creating such a memorable experience and for supporting NLP!

Pure joy at the Truist Youth Sports Clinic 🤘 Third graders from Allison Elementary had the chance to attend Texas Relays, and this same group also joined a sports clinic with student-athletes from multiple Longhorn sports teams!

So grateful to see our Longhorn athletes inspiring the next generation and making such a meaningful impact on these students. 🧡

Last month, we were honored to have representatives of UT Austin’s Divine Nine participate in a Black History Month celebration at Harris Elementary. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity performed for the students. They were incredible and everyone had a great time!
