What would you say?

🕐We planned to leave right after lunch.

We had miles to make, another stop ahead of us, and I really wanted to get there before dark.

Then, while they were eating lunch and looking out the window at this glowing golden forest, one of them asked…

“Mom, can we pleaseeee go run through those trees before we go?” 🍂🍁

My knee-jerk reaction was no.

No, we need to get going.
No, we’re already running late.
No, we need to make it to the next stop before dark.

And then I mentally shook myself.

Why not?

So they ran.

They threw leaves in the air. Rolled around in them. Played hide-and-seek behind golden trees. Laughed until their cheeks hurt.

And when they finally climbed back into the coach, they smelled like wet puppies and were covered in mud, leaves and bits of lichen.

But every single one of them had the biggest smile on their face.

And I thought… this.

This is why we chose this life.

For the ‘why not’ moments.

I’m not saying stick a For Sale sign in your yard this week, sell everything you own and floor it to Alaska. 😂

But maybe, just once this week, when your first instinct is…

No, it’s bedtime.
No, you’ll get dirty.
No, we’re running late.
No, we don’t have time.

Try saying…

Why not?

Just be careful.

Those “why nots” have a funny way of rolling off your tongue a little easier each time.

And before you know it, you might find yourself living in a motorcoach, parked in Alaska, running through a golden forest with your kids, picking leaves out of your hair and laughing like you’re seven again. 🍂

And honestly… why not?

We found the best RV campground in Alaska, met the resident bald eagle, 🦅 and while we didn’t actually ever see orca whales on our Orca Quest… we saw something so rare that most who take this excursion will never experience it. 😮

Hi! Welcome to our Journey. We are WanderLuxe With Us. Most kids are back in school. Mine: currently chasing glaciers, bears and the Northern Lights.🤍 And for this season of our lives, I wouldn’t trade it. Homeschooling four kids while traveling full-time isn’t the easy choice. There are days when I think I would miss the simplicity of dropping them off at school and knowing someone else has the lesson plan covered. I do worry I will look back and realize I forgot to teach them something important. But I don’t miss the rush. I don’t miss measuring our lives in bells, practices, appointments and how quickly we could get everyone out the door. Somewhere along the way, we realized education doesn’t have to happen on someone else’s timeline. It doesn’t have to be linear. Our kids still do math. They read, write and work through curriculum. But they also stand on glaciers. Catch their own dinner. Watch bears teach their cubs to fish. Learn which berries are edible. Meet the people who call these places home. Try unfamiliar foods. Ask a million questions. And those lessons count, too. So while the textbooks can wait a little longer, we’re going to keep learning from the world in front of us. Today, foraging. Tomorrow, maybe the Northern Lights. There’s more than one way to raise a child. There’s more than one way to learn. And there’s more than one path worth taking. We started our social channels last January, (YouTube came a little later, in March), with the intention of inspiring others to consider a life less ordinary. To take your blueprint and what “you’re supposed to do”, crumble it up and toss it over your shoulder to truly just live life for today.
The timing is never ideal. And yes. It’s a little scary. It does take planning and there will be some missteps, but the life we are building is so rewarding, I’m hoping to spread that joy to anyone out there who wants a piece of it.
