Capitol Area Council

Our council offers prayers of comfort and healing to the family and friends of Linda Gray.

Linda was well known across our council as a devoted Scouter who always stepped up to serve. For nearly 30 years, she volunteered in multiple roles at the unit, district, and council levels. Linda was a Den Leader with Cub Scout Pack 153 in Georgetown, where her sons were Cub Scouts (all eventually became Eagle Scouts). She helped found Scouts BSA Troop 405 in Georgetown and served as its Chartered Organization Representative for 27 years. Linda logged more than 300 days and nights camping with Troop 405, including monthly camping trips, 18 trips to Scouting America's Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, sailing trips at Scouting America's Sea Base, and canoeing at Scouting America's Northern Tier High Adventure Base.

She believed as many children as possible should benefit from Scouting's proven program, so she served as a Unit Commissioner offering advice and support to other leaders so their units could better serve their Scouts. Linda was a Merit Badge Counselor and also served as Chartered Organization Representative for Cub Scout Pack 405 and Venturing Crew 405.

In recognition of her leadership, Linda received the District Award of Merit. In 1990, our council presented her with the Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor in Scouting for service at the local council level.

A visitation with the family will be held at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel between 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Friday, October 2. The funeral service will take place at 10:00am the next morning, October 3, also at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel.

Congratulations to our Scout of the Week, Timo!

Timo is a Second Class Scout in Troop 685 of Pflugerville. He serves as an Assistant Patrol Leader and a Den Chief in Pack 912. He has earned two religious awards as a Cub Scout and is working toward his third. Timo is also a James West Fellow!

When asked about why he enjoys serving as a Den Chief, Timo stated, “I had a really amazing time in Cub Scouts, and as an older Scout, it’s important for me to give back to the younger Scouts so that they have as much fun as I did. Plus, I really like to help make a difference to the kids that I see living in my neighborhood.”

When asked what the hardest part of being a Den Chief was, Timo answered, “The hardest part of being a Den Chief is trying to come up with new ways to keep the Webelos excited about the adventures.”

Congratulations, Timo. Keep up the great work and the leadership skills you are building through Scouting!
