On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free. This day became known as Juneteenth and is now celebrated as a federal holiday.

Juneteenth is an opportunity to reflect on our nation's history, honor the resilience and contributions of Black Americans, and recommit ourselves to building stronger, more inclusive communities. As Scouts, we strive to live the values of citizenship, respect, and service every day.

Nearly 200 Scouters from across the country attended Commissioner Week at the Philmont Training Center (PTC) last week, including 13 from our council.

All summer long, while Philmont Scout Ranch serves crews on backcountry treks, the PTC hosts family adventures and leadership courses that strengthen units and help grow Scouting.

We're grateful for every Scouter who gives so much of their time to help us benefit youth throughout Central Texas!

Due to this morning’s Flash Flood Warning, TechLab STEAM camp will have an extended check-in/arrival running until 11:00am. All week one families should have received an email advising them to come to camp when they feel it is safest. Any work done this morning can be made up. Stay safe!

Some people say you can't play sports and be in Scouting.

Someone forgot to tell North Carolina outfielder Owen Hull.

We want to wish a massive bon voyage to Troop 408 and Troop 508 as they head out to Sea Base for the ultimate high-adventure Scouting trip! While the whole crew is bound for an incredible time, we have to shine a massive spotlight on one specific Scout making the trip, Zachary Ebert.

Zachary is a Life Scout who just completed his Eagle project, but his hard work didn't stop there. Get this—Zachary funded his entire Sea Base adventure on his own using the money he earned selling popcorn!

Talk about dedication and drive. Zachary’s story is the perfect example of exactly what popcorn can do for you.

It makes you think... what adventures are waiting for your Scout or your unit in the future? Where will popcorn take you next? Let us know what adventures your unit has coming up this summer down below!
