Spoorthi Rao was born in Bengaluru, formerly known as 'Bangalore', Karnataka, India,to Santhosh Rao, who is a Senior Manager at IBM Global Business Services, and Sindhu Rao, a freelance musician. Her mother, who is also a music teacher, was her first guru. Spoorthi has a brother, Samarth Rao, who is two years younger to her. According to her mother, Spoorthi developed an interest towards music at an early age, and learned to sing along while listening to her mother practice. She started her music training under the tutelage of light music teacher Narahari Dixith, Tabla guru Pt. Rajgopal Kallurkar, Carnatic classical music guru Yashasvi Subbarao and film playback singer Parthu Nemani. Spoorthi studies in Sri Aurobindo Memorial School in Bangalore, India.

Over the years of being a serious student of Carnatic music, my growing exposure to her music has only deepened my admiration for her extraordinary artistry. Every time I listen to her, I’m left in awe of her soul-stirring, fearless, inventive, seemingly effortless music, her beautiful manodharma, her electrifying brighas, and her effortless command across octaves.
So deeply rooted in tradition while still pushing its boundaries and being a trendsetter, her timeless music and legacy continues to inspire generations of musicians.
Looking back, it’s so special to realize that MLV amma’s music has accompanied two very important milestones in my musical journey — this performance in the Super Singer finals and Innu Daya Barade at my arangetram, which also got me a lot of love from rasikas. ❤️

Blessed to have sung for Isaignani sir’s show for the first time yesterday in Vellore, and to have had the opportunity to perform two songs — one of them being Isai Arasi, Raaja sir’s magnum opus song and one of my absolute favourites, alongside the sweetest and most amazingggg shwetamohan akka. ✨

As someone who has long admired the festival and the incredible musicians who have graced its stage, including my gurus Ranjani Gayatri’s iconic concerts over the years, this opportunity means a lot to me.
