BREAKING🚨 Trump officials have moved 925 migrant children who arrived in the US alone into facilities the Texas REFUSES to license, where as few as 8.7% of kids have a lawyer.

In July, almost 80% of unaccompanied children placed into new immigration court proceedings were routed to shelters somewhere in Texas. In August it was more than 90%.

That's 651 kids moved there in two months, bringing the total with open court cases in Texas to 925. More than 60% of all detained kids with ongoing proceedings are now believed to be in Texas, up from fewer than half in June.

No public reason has been given for any of it. The Office of Refugee Resettlement, the agency legally responsible for these children's welfare, did not respond to a request for comment.

Texas Republicans refuse to license the facilities holding them, which means less child welfare oversight, and the shelters keep operating anyway. Nationally, 31.7% of kids in custody with active court cases have a lawyer on record. In Houston it's 17.2%, in El Paso 18.6%, in San Antonio 8.7%.

"We're thinking about congregating children in facilities in Texas, where there are less attorneys, where it's one of the harshest jurisdictions... And it's close to the border, where they can just get planes," said Roxana Avila-Cimpeanu of the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project. She called what's being built "a deportation churn out factory that has attorneys in name but not real representation."

Officials are also seeking contracts for emergency facilities holding up to 3,000 children. Those can only open when capacity hits 85% for multiple days. The current network is at about 27%. Border encounters with unaccompanied kids have been exceptionally low for a year and a half.

Each site would need an 8-foot perimeter fence and has to be running within 90 days of a contract award. The contractors would also be responsible for providing the children's legal services.
