One session isn't enough, and the evidence behind LED is thinner than most of this industry lets on.

Protocols aren't standardized across clinics. Device specifications vary, doses vary, and the published research says so outright. The case for LED in skin rejuvenation is real but it sits at moderate.

The strongest study is from 2014. 136 people with mild to moderate photoaging were treated twice a week for nine weeks against a sham group, and the treated group came out with measurable improvement in the fine lines around the eyes and in skin roughness. Nine weeks of repetition for a measurable result.

One facial here will leave your skin hydrated, calmer and holding light better for a few days, and we'll stand behind that. Lift is the nine week version.

If a clinic quotes a study at you, ask how many people were in it and whether there was a sham group. Most won't be able to tell you.

Your face goes tight about a minute after you wash it, and the moisturizer that used to be plenty isn't any more. That's Austin's water rather than your cleanser.

It carries a high load of dissolved calcium and magnesium. Those minerals bind with cleansers and leave a fine film on the skin, and the film is what you're feeling. Over time it also wears at the barrier, which is where the sudden sensitivity comes from and why things sting now that never used to.

Three things help and none of them cost anything. Swap a foaming cleanser for a cream or oil one, since foaming surfactants react hardest with mineral load. Finish with a damp cloth rather than running water, or rinse filtered if you have a filter. And get moisturizer onto damp skin inside a minute, because on hard water that window is shorter than the usual advice assumes.

Comment WATER and we'll send the full routine, including which cleanser types to avoid here.

A client left a review after her first facial at 67, saying she'd been meaning to book since her fifties and that it's never too late to look after your skin.

She's right, with one caveat she deserves.

Fibroblasts don't retire. They're still active at 60 and beyond and they still respond to stimulation, which is why the treatment does anything at that age. What changes is speed. Cell turnover has slowed from roughly 28 days to nearer 50, so the same stimulus takes longer to surface. What a 45 year old sees at week two often turns up at week four.

So waiting doesn't switch anything off. It changes the timeline you should be quoted, and someone quoting you a 45 year old's timeline at 67 hasn't adjusted it for you.

Worth asking whoever you speak to next what they'd expect for your age specifically.

By two in the afternoon your foundation has settled into the crease beside your nose, and it didn't do that five years ago. Most people buy two or three more before working out that it isn't the foundation.

Skin loses around 1% of its collagen a year from the mid twenties, so by your early fifties roughly a quarter of the scaffolding is gone. Product sits differently because there's less holding the surface up.

Which is worth knowing before the next purchase, because it sorts out what everything on your shelf can reach. Makeup sits on top and actives work in the upper layers. Structure is below both of those, and nothing you apply at home gets down there.

Comment LAYERS and we'll send you the one page version so you can go through your own shelf. It's free and there's nothing attached to it.

The thing you're picturing when you imagine this going wrong comes from two treatments, and neither of them is this one.

Botulinum toxin blocks the signal between nerve and muscle so the muscle stops moving. Filler adds volume where there wasn't any before. Both change the architecture of a face, which is why the result can read as a stranger.

Collagen stimulation works on tissue you already have. Light and controlled energy prompt your own fibroblasts to make more of a protein they're already making.

That's also the ceiling on it. It can't produce a dramatic change, because there's nothing to work with except what's already there.

If you're weighing up anywhere in Austin, the question that sorts this out is what are you putting into my face. If the answer is nothing, the outcome you're worried about isn't on the table.

Save this for whichever consultation you book next, here or anywhere else.

✨ Summer In Austin — Staying Radiant In The Heat

Austin summers are beautiful—but they're not exactly gentle on your skin.

Heat, humidity, sweat, and extra sun exposure can leave your skin feeling oilier, dehydrated, or more congested than usual. The secret isn't using more products—it's using the right ones for the season.

A few simple adjustments, consistent SPF, and treatments that support hydration and your skin barrier can help you stay radiant all summer long.
