Tuesday Coaching
Life feeling harder than it should? Let's bridge that gap.
Coaching for ADHD, autistic, and AuDHD adults (diagnosed or questioning) who understand their patterns but get stuck between knowing and doing.
Sometimes ambition is actually just a cover for survival.
Many late diagnosed ADHD autistic professionals learned to stay safe by over performing, overachieving, and never slowing down. This may have helped at the start, but could now create more exhaustion.
if you’re not sure if this is you, ask yourself: are you safe enough to do anything differently? Are you still in survival mode?

Having both ADHD and autism can have some funny (albeit painful) moments in life.
I'm an ADHD autistic coach and regularly post educational content, so follow for more.
ADHDers commonly have a habit of doing things last minute. And then telling themselves they will do it earlier the next time, only to not ever do it earlier.
There are several ADHD strategies to support a different approach. But you need to actually WANT to do them. If you feel like you’ll just use any excuse to get out of doing it earlier, here’s another approach.

Being ADHD autistic and getting the delayed “I got smacked in the face by a sharp pinching feeling that’s likely depression” is never fun. When it happens, it’s important for me to tell others.
My experience has been that by the time I recognize it, the drop in mood and behavior can be sharp and fast so I need to act immediately.
I can’t message just one person because life happens and maybe that person won’t have space, maybe they won’t respond, or maybe they have some other things going on that has nothing to do with me.
The most important thing is to tell others once you actually know how you feel, so you can get support as the first step to feeling better.

Why do ADHD/AuDHD professionals feel like they should approach all tasks with equal results? Even if the work is in different domains of life?

This tip is for relationships where trust is *already established.* Some ADHDers aren’t great with replying back. Turning on read receipts can support better communication by providing an added signal to say “Hey, I did see this message - I’ll get back to you soon” or “I forgot so it’s okay to ping me again.”

There’s a difference between celebrating the strengths that come with your neurotype vs elevating that to a “superpower”level where you sound superior to others.
One is completely acceptable because we do have strengths that we can focus on and help build the life we want. The other can be damaging not only to the individual but also to the community around us. Try to choose your words wisely.
Sometimes having both ADHD autism means focusing so intensely, everything else is a blur. It isn’t intentional or personal, I’m just locked in elsewhere. The good news is, sometimes these misunderstandings can be repaired with simple honest conversations.

This is Part 11 of my “ADHD vs Autism vs AuDHD” series, covering small talk. Both ADHD and autism can dislike small talk but for different reasons.
