The Old-School Agitator: This is the classic washer we all grew up with. The center piece grabs your clothes, pulls them down, and lets them float back up, creating cleaning friction through that constant up-and-down motion.

The Impeller: Instead of a tall center post, these have a small drum at the bottom. Clothes move in a circle, using gravity and the weight of the laundry to create friction as the water comes up through them.

The Front Loader: These rely entirely on the friction of your clothes tumbling and falling into each other. Because they need to tumble to clean, they always need a little bit of room left inside the drum to work properly!
