Sound Unseen Austin Film + Music Festival is The Film Festival for Music Fans, dedicated to music-driven storytelling and the creative communities behind it.

IT TAKES A COMMUNITY TO FILL A THEATER. 🎬🎶

Our Community Partners helped Sound Unseen Austin reach the people who make this city’s music and film communities so damn special.

They shared the films. They spread the word. They brought their audiences into the conversation. And they helped connect Sound Unseen Austin with the artists, music lovers, film lovers, and curious humans who make Austin such a great place to tell stories.

We're incredibly grateful to every organization that helped us get the word out and supported our mission to put music stories on the big screen and bring Austin together around them. ❤️

These aren't just logos on a flyer. They're organizations doing the work every day to support Austin's music, film, arts, and creative communities.
So here's a big THANK YOU to our Community Partners for helping make Sound Unseen Austin bigger, louder, and more connected.

THE PEOPLE WHO HELP MAKE THE MUSIC PLAY. 🎬🎶

A film festival doesn't happen on movie screens alone. It takes people and organizations willing to put their support behind Austin's creative community, music stories, independent film, and the artists.

We are incredibly grateful to our Sponsors for helping bring Sound Unseen Austin to life. Your support helps us put these stories on the big screen, bring filmmakers and audiences together, and create more opportunities for Austin to gather around the music and culture we love.

And honestly? We think that's worth celebrating. 🥂

Scroll through to see some of the wonderful humans who showed up for Sound Unseen Austin this year. ❤️

Thank you for believing in artists and believing that the stories behind the music are worth telling.

Here's to the people who help keep Austin's creative heartbeat loud. 🎶

THAT’S A WRAP ON SOUND UNSEEN 2026. 🎬🎶

Four days. Incredible films. Legendary artists. Big conversations. Full theaters. New discoveries. And a whole lot of Austin showing up for music and the stories behind it.

From opening night with The Chicks: Shut Up & Sing to the final screening of Eddie Cochron, you made this festival what it was.

To every filmmaker, director, artist, moderator, speaker, sponsor, community partner, volunteer, photographer, venue staff member, and behind-the-scenes human who helped bring Sound Unseen Austin to life: thank you. ❤️

And to everyone who bought a ticket, brought a friend, stayed for a Q&A, shared a post, tagged us in a Story, or simply walked through the doors:
Thank you for showing up.

You filled the rooms. You asked the questions. You laughed, listened, applauded, discovered new stories, and reminded us why music belongs on the big screen.

We couldn't have asked for a better festival.

TONIGHT’s pre-screening short is a good one. 🤩

Before BP Fallon: Rock’n’Roll Wizard hits the screen, we’re playing The Black Angels, 20 Years of Passover, a look back at the album that helped kick off Austin’s psych rock revival. 🖤

The Black Angels formed here in Austin in 2004, and Passover dropped in 2006 as their debut. It’s the record that pointed straight back to the city’s own psych roots, 13th Floor Elevators and Roky Erickson, and helped spark a movement the band kept building with Austin Psych Fest, which grew into Levitation. Two decades later, it’s still a cornerstone record for the city. 🤘

✌️Two films, one ticket, tonight at AFS Cinema.

OPENING NIGHT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. 🎬🔥

Last night, Austin showed up.

We kicked off Sound Unseen Austin Film + Music Festival with a packed house for the 20th anniversary screening of The Chicks: Shut Up & Sing, followed by an incredible conversation with Oscar-winning director Barbara Kopple, co-director Cecilia Peck, and moderator Debbie Hiott.

The room was full. The conversation was even fuller. And this is only the beginning.

Tonight, we’re doing it again.

🎤 SARA BAREILLES: GOOD GRIEF
An intimate look at grief, creativity, and one of today’s most beloved singer-songwriters.

🤘 BP FALLON: ROCK’N’ROLL WIZARD
The larger-than-life story of the legendary rock publicist, raconteur, and confidant to artists including Led Zeppelin, T. Rex, and U2.

Two films. One night. And a whole lot more music history still waiting to be discovered.

📅 TONIGHT • FRIDAY, AUGUST 7

Twenty years after its release, Shut Up & Sing still asks timely questions about free speech, celebrity, and standing by your convictions.

🎤 Stay after the screening for a special Q&A with Academy Award-winning director Barbara Kopple and co-director Cecilia Peck.

Thanks to our community partner Austin WIFT for helping bring this screening to Austin.

SPEAK YOUR MIND. LOSE YOUR JOB. SOUND FAMILIAR? 🎤🎬

The questions at the heart of Shut Up & Sing still resonate 20 years later.

Joining us for Opening Night is Debbie Hiott, the longtime leader of K*T and K*TX, who recently left the stations after publicly criticizing the University of Texas over a security dispute.

Debbie will moderate our post-screening Q&A with Academy Award-winning director Barbara Kopple and co-director Cecilia Peck for what promises to be a timely conversation about free expression, public pressure, and why this film continues to matter.
