To maintain transparency and creative integrity Gratwick intends to rely on as little institutional funding as possible. If you win too much and it's always easy, victory loses its meaning. Challenge is what gives achievement its value.
The difficult stretch is not a detour around the achievement. According to the card, it is where the value comes from.
