It starts with listening to the community and an intensive investigation.

2️⃣ The community has to own the solution.
The people using the system are involved in planning, decision-making, maintenance, and management.

3️⃣ A borehole isn’t automatically a solution.
You have to understand the groundwater, the geology, the demand, and whether the water is safe.

4️⃣ “Done” doesn’t mean done.
A water system needs monitoring and maintenance long after construction is finished.

5️⃣ The biggest impact might have nothing to do with drinking water.
More water can mean more time for school, agriculture, businesses, and community development.

This is the story of Mitero, Kenya.💧

A few years ago, the people of Mitero relied on unsafe and unreliable water sources. Water scarcity impacted every aspect of daily life, such as cooking, cleaning, farming, and economic opportunities.

Now, clean water keeps Mitero’s children healthy, prevents waterborne illness, and allows the community to thrive. Since the installation of the water system, enrollment at Mitero Primary School has increased by 24%!

“I want to become a doctor because I will help the sick people get well.” 🩵

This is Brian, a 13-year-old student at Kisueni Primary School in Kenya. He loves learning with his teachers and classmates at school.

Brian says that clean water means “life” to him. He is happy that he and his community now have enough clean water to be healthy!
