One piece. Two stages. A completely different look after cleaning!
This opalized wood from Rainbow Ridge Opal Mine in Nevada went from a matrix-covered rough surface to revealing incredible natural play-of-color—flashes of green, yellow, orange, red, and blue throughout the opal.
The original wood structure is preserved through the opalization process, creating a truly unique combination of fossilized wood and precious opal. Every angle reveals something different. 🔥

🌵🔥 VIRGIN VALLEY, NEVADA — OPAL HUNTING 🔥🌵
Some places are worth the drive just for the landscape. Virgin Valley is one of them.
This trip was about getting out into the Nevada desert, exploring the terrain, and seeing what I could uncover. And then there’s the moment every rockhound is chasing… finding opal. 🌈✨
The landscape photo is one of my own photos from the trip, and the opal shown is one of my own specimens from Virgin Valley.
That’s what I love about these trips — the photos, the places, the hunt, and the specimens all come with a story.

Golden Utah Topaz ✨⛰️
A couple of beautiful Topaz crystals from Searle Canyon, Topaz Mountain, Utah — including this gorgeous golden crystal with incredible clarity, natural striations, and a second crystal still attached to matrix.
Topaz is a fluorine-bearing aluminum silicate and ranks 8 on the Mohs hardness scale. The Topaz Mountain area is famous for its gem-quality crystals, especially the warm golden to ch*****ne-colored material.

Salt Flats Selenite — Oklahoma 🌵✨
One of those travel stops that reminds you why the road is worth taking.
The Oklahoma salt flats stretch out across the landscape like another world — and scattered across the surface are selenite crystals, including the distinctive brownish “hourglass” crystals Oklahoma is known for.
These photos capture the landscape and a close-up look at the crystals right where they’re found. Pretty incredible to see this kind of geology spread across such a huge, seemingly endless salt-covered plain.

🐚 Rucks’ Pit Fossil Whelk — Florida
Another incredible fossil from Rucks’ Pit, Okeechobee County, Florida—but this time, it’s not a clam.
This is a fossil whelk (Busycon rucksorum), a marine gastropod (sea snail) from the Early Pleistocene, roughly 1–2 million years old. The original shell material was replaced/recrystallized by calcite, creating the beautiful honey-to-golden crystal-filled interior.
Rucks’ Pit is especially famous for its crystal-filled fossil mollusks, and Busycon whelks are considerably less common there than the famous Mercenaria clams.

💎 ARKANSAS QUARTZ — OUACHITA MOUNTAINS 💎
Another incredible Arkansas find! These specimens show off the classic clear-to-milky quartz, naturally terminated points, and beautiful crystal formations that make Ouachita Mountain quartz so highly sought after by collectors.
The larger cluster is loaded with sharp, sparkling points, while the massive individual crystal shows off that classic Arkansas quartz form fully terminated . 🤘

⚒️ PYRITE FROM GRAPHIC MINE, NEW MEXICO
This is one serious piece of natural pyrite! 🔥
Collected by me at the Graphic Mine in Hidalgo County, New Mexico, this specimen is loaded with metallic pyrite and includes some impressive octahedral crystal development.
The brassy metallic luster really comes alive under the light—and the larger crystals make this a standout addition to the collection.
