Turnin’ Brown
Summer’s almost gone…here’s one final ode to the beach season before it fades into memory. Living in Ocean City in the 70’s, I always thought it was weird for people to lie in the sun while their skin cells died just so they could look darker—a strange cultural behavior! – which I tried to convey with a touch of humor in this song. This is the 7th and final new video for songs from my ’79 album Stargazer. Me: vocals, acoustic guitar, synthesizer; Hugh McCracken: producer, electric guitar; Tony Levin: bass; Rick Moratta: drums; Anthony Jackson: percussion.

Several months ago I wrote, recorded, and released an original song titled “Postmodern Girl.” More recently I released an ai cover. A viewer commented that the song should be sung by a woman—I absolutely agree! So, I generated a new cover version with a female vocal that I think turned out pretty cool. I wanted this one to look different, so I decided to use a Marcinelle style animation. She’s a little punkish, a little glamour, a little feminist, a little romantic, a lot of agnostic. Final touches of editing by Craig Tambascio at ThinkTank Studios. Enjoy!

NEW VIDEO…“BERMUDA” https://youtu.be/lP0I89LOokU
…so there I was sitting on the edge of my bed with a new acoustic guitar the day after an amazing acid trip and still hypersensitized for sounds and colors…thumbing through a National Geographic article titled “Flying Down to Bermuda” …enraptured with the photos and playing around with major and minor seventh chords when this melody emerged from some of the phrases and captions from the article and voila! “Bermuda.” I didn’t feel guilty about using the captions for lyrics because I had read that Lennon copied words from circus poster as the lyrics for his “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite.” A bit cocktail-ish and pseudo-Caribbean, it nonetheless captures a balmy and pleasurable vacation feeling which was all I was really after in the first place…escape, escape, escape…
This is the latest in a series of new videos for songs from my 1979 Stargazer album. me-vocals acoustic guitar, Hugh McCracken-producer, nylon guitar; Tony Levin- bass; Rick Marotta-drums; Anthony Jenkins-percussion; Mike Manieri-marimba, string arrangement; Linda Reddwolf-backing vocals.

-just finished my first experiment with AI -- a cover of “Postmodern Girl” –a song of mine from my Singles Collection album. This AI version has a kind of shine and polish and punch that my original did not…inspired me to produce a new video… many new clips and a few from the older version. Enjoy!

DEAR MR. MEMORY: One lonely night in the mid 70’s when I was living alone in a little farmhouse in Dagsboro, Delaware, I decided to call some friends for company. All I got was – busy signals, numbers no longer in service, busy with the kids, in the middle of doing something with the wife—some had left town or passed away. I wrote this to express the existential blue loneliness and exaggerated a bit for effect. Sizzling solos from Paul Saroka on sax and Ron Turner on guitar and production; with me on vocals, piano, bass; Mike Kanter on drums; produced by Ron Turner. Here’s a new video I recently produced on rotorvideos.

When my friend Gary and I were the singers in Please, we used to smoke w**d and listen to 1920’s music a lot back in ‘71? ’72? when we lived on Pratt Street. I loved the optimistic, jaunty feeling of the music. Fast-forward to 2025 and the Albert project – I needed something uplifting after the chapter in which Albert’s wife and sons leave him – it was 1920-something—maybe early ‘30’s. It made sense to try my hand at a 20-ish kind of song about his new wife, Elsa: she did everything for him—even allowed him to see girlfriends…looks like Einstein was a Romeo!
